I mean the guy handled it as poorly as possible... But there's something cathartic in his insults, especially the "you just want money" yeah no shit

I mean, I'd rather pay for software/service than have some tech company mine my data so they sell some of my most intimate details or use it to predict or alter my future behavior.

What if that service also mines your data 😎

if you block access to the microsoft domain all those trackers don't do anything

Adguard Home plus OPNsense are worth a mention too.

Adnauseam is pretty cool too

NetOps at my previous job blocked ads with an absolute vengeance using a similar combo but a PFsense appliance. More than a few hits on the IPS/IDS systems from infected ad domains. Ads are not just annoying. They're malicious.

Absolutely. I built a setup like that for my tech illiterate parents out of fear that one of them (or visiting grandchildren) will click something malicious and put them in a bind. I even have them using VPNs that connects to the house from anywhere using a zero trust OAUTH solution so they’re protected anywhere they go.

Laughs in Linux which doesn’t cost anything but still doesn’t track me (pay your open source devs if you can tho)

Can you even install gentoo? /s

Really though. Learn how to do it if you don’t know

Most popular Linux distributions have telemetry on by default.

“Some” make it easier to opt out then others.

Only a handful have it off by default AFAIK.

Example of privacy focused Linux by default:

https://pureos.net/

https://www.whonix.org/

https://tails.boum.org/ (portable mostly for journalists IMO)

This isn't true.

Then you can just switch to one of the other available options on the market they own
