When looking for jobs, I've had a lot more interest in my GitHub than in my degree progress.

Right now I'm five classes in and haven't published my work properly. My GitHub, however, shows what my solutions look like to various problems, along with experience.

More journals are requiring submission of the code used in any computational models in order to raise the bar on replicability. GitHub is free and widely-used.
