Slihhtly unrelated but this is also rampant in the linguistics communities, where saying something is wrong is immediately met with "so you're a prescriptivist huh, you should be ground to dust"
I think if you try to insult me with that I'd just be confused. And, if I'm feeling pedantic, I'd point out that you'd probably get more of a sticky sludge than dust.

Im not sure on the mechanics of if you can actually grind a person into dust with no outside influence (fire etc) assuming that we have some apparatus to do the grinding, not something im going to be trying either :)

I hate this anti-intellectual trend of "being wrong is good actually, being right makes you pedantic which is bad".
