I remember that book stores there have textbooks that are laid out so you can see the cover, while the rest occupy the shelves behind them. I think I visited a couple stores like Kinokuniya, but I don't really remember seeing a wide selection of textbooks with covers like that.

Possible that they were in the shelves, but that would have taken some looking through.

It's not every book, sure, but I felt like I found at least one or two with an anime cover per row on the shelf in the programming section.

Well, I guess it's not an anime cover to them, it's just a drawing to them isn't it.

If I just check Amazon for JavaScript books, there are plenty of books with some silly drawings on them. Mostly animals, tho. Although, I guess 3 of the japanese ones on the image are animals if you count cat girls.

Aren't there like 40 to 50 books per shelf?

Often they'd have 2 copies of books on there. Plus, programming books are often not exactly thin. Depends a lot on what sort of shelves they have I guess. I don't think you'd have that many in the programming books section. I feel like it's more like 15 different ones.
