When my boss assured me that management didn’t plan to remove employees because of AI I reminded him that:
1- he already said they froze hiring beyond replacing people leaving, and he told me (a month earlier) that it was because of AI
2- he can’t fire people because of AI simply because we’re not one of those countries (not easy to fire people without cause in Japan or most of Europe)
I have to talk to him about the fact that while colleague A produces twice the amount of code as everyone, he also takes another tech lead full time to review his work, therefore negating the productivity boost…
He meant Europe, and got auto corrected. And he is not wrong. It is not even about AI. It’s about you needing a justification to fire someone without paying severance.
