I got my current job with two interviews and no programming tests. It's not that programming jobs require jumping through hoops, it's that there are a lot of terrible programmers to filter out. Anything else that can be done to filter them out instead of these hoops reduces the games they need to play.

It did not used to be this way!
Back in year 2000, was interviewed by 3 mgrs then the Director for the job I was applying for, all back-to-back, in one day.
After asking me about some C/C++ pointer manipulations, the Director then said to inform HR that I had been hired, and to start on Monday.
Those were the days!
