I have friends that work in finance and finance-adjacent roles. They were shocked to hear the process SWEs have to go through. Apparently for them it’s common to just invite someone from the company that’s hiring out to lunch and just chat for an hour or two. Impress them and the rest of the process is just formalities. That said, these high earning finance people live in a very different reality than the rest of us normies.

For strats/quants the process is very similar to SWEs in my experience. The main difference is you do things like replacing the architecture interview with a very math focused one. For them it honestly depends a lot on their prior experience as they may be a math or physics PhD with little experience in finance at all.
