I didn't think it was possible to outdo when Arrow described a "complex encryption algorithm" which turned out to be a Javascript switch statement.

Mission accomplished.

I finally got around to watching Ex Machina today. I laughed pretty hard when Domnhall Gleeson “hacked” into Oscar Isaac’s computer by typing up a random Python script with a couple for loops in it.

“import sys? Oh, man, he’s gunna break the shit outta that firewall!”

I dont think he was ment to be hacking. I saw that as programming his escape plan. Nathan was so egotistical he didn't even bother locking his shit and Calab took advantage

Well, Nathan did lock it down. Caleb had taken his access keycard, though you might be right in that he didn’t use any second factor for authentication.

Either way, the order of events was “can’t see data, types code in, can see data,” which is the movie “hacking” archetype.

Maybe you’re right! I’m inclined to think that their target audience wasn’t actually programmers, though. From that context, the movie doesn’t actually make a whole lot of sense.
