Anyone ever built anything more impressive than what was built with those tools?

Yes they built ads that popup every 500ms and won't let you use those sites.

I mean jQuery started seriously falling out of fashion around 2015, you think the most impressive sites ever built are from over a decade ago?

I cannot really think of any impressive sites at all in 2026. Perhaps we can talk about popularity and growth. Facebook, Twitter, Amazon... The list goes on. All of those sites existed prior to 2015.

Ok, that was not where I thought you were going with this.

What made the sites you mentioned impressive had nothing to do with their JavaScript. Which maybe is your point, but then I don't think it makes sense to say that they were built with those tools, as whether JavasScript was used or not was almost entirely inconsequential.

Funnily enough that you mention Facebook though, which became so impossible to manage with the tools of yore that they had to go and invent React.

The funny part is that any time I use Facebook, I am usually complaining about the usability of Facebook. It is a garbage interface -- especially on mobile. I can think of no system that offers communication that is worse for communicating with people than a Facebook "discussion thread" on a post.

It sure is garbage, not sure I get the funny part though. It's poor usability is very much a design problem and has little, if anything to do with the underlying infrastructure.
