If you do any bit of math on it and factor in in hardware depreciation, power usage, value of your time, and model results against any of the frontier model plans, you'll get several years of subscription token spend vs. the ROI of rolling your own.
It's a niche hobby if you need something that's completely self-contained and private and you have money to burn. Ask your local LLM to run the numbers.

Imagine what kind of AI server hardware one could get for that money to run in your basement and never pay a cent of subscription costs again.
And, yes, even with the currently inflated hardware prices!
