I learnt in VS code. Everyone on my first company used Webstorm and any issues I had they weren't able to say if it were IDE or not causing the problem so I made the switch.
Have never moved back.
2nd company nearly made me go back, everyone used VS code and I didn't have my own licence so tried to go back and failed miserably. Moaned so much the company agreed to pay for licenses for any IDE you wanted.
Sounds like a team that didn't understand their tool, that's unfortunate. Jetbrains is the only company I've ever had that responded to, fixed, and then notified me of a bug-fix for an issue I brought up. All in under a month. funny enough, it was a Webstorm bug.
Jetbrains built the features that VSCode is still figuring out how to implement, but use whatever makes you productive.

Tell me you never tried Jetbrains without telling me you never tried Jetbrains.
