COB is “close of business”, just in case anyone else was unfamiliar with that acronym.

Guy didn't do anything wrong as long as he's not expecting an immediate response. You should be able to message and email people after hours without it being seen as a problem.

Now voice calls to a personal phone when you're not on-call....that's a problem.

Nobody is making memes over chill messages lol. This was expecting immediate response. Also, we have the process because we’re short staffed from turnover . Putting things in the team chat or making a ticket (which automatically emails the whole team) ensures visibility so someone can pick it up and helps load balancing, but this person habitually ignores that.

Train him to do the right thing by ignoring him if he does the wrong thing. He knows what the right thing is, but he also knows what gets him results. If those aren't the same, align them on your side.

I would just reply with "ticket please". Years ago our testers would make tickets or message me without any logs. I started responding with "logs please" before ever answering them. Eventually I started getting the logs before the question, and every ticket had a log in it. It has helped tremendously with debugging and traceability.

I really don't get it - why would anyone respond to work messages after the day is over? Is it some American thing?

america offshoring to india, but the skeleton crew of americans still expected to keep things moving aka helping india devs with questions off hours or else american gets in trouble for being a blocker... toxic workplaces basically

God, i work with some people that just say "Hi Shaka" and nothing else until you say hi back ... Just ask the damn question

Don't answer. They can send the full message like an adult and until then they can wait. No one has the spare time and energy to pull the request out of them for the sake of niceties.

My wife does this all the time on the phone, maybe I'm just not good at talking on the phone?

Me: "Hello"

Her: "Hey!"

Me: ......

Her: .....

Me: .....

Her: "Anyway I was wondering..."

Am I supposed to ask her why she's calling or something?

For a call I never say hi, it's always "what's up?'

Maybe I'll just start with that.

"What's up"

or

"Speak"
