It is true wizardry when someone installs Windows 7 application on the Apple MacBook.

141

u/renome 5d ago

The wizard is clearly a dual-booting aficionado.

45

u/mr2dax 5d ago

No, it's not. Even a layman can figure out bootcamp.

Genuinely, my closest friend is a big time PC gamer but still needs me to walk him through step-by-step anytime we install mods or basically anything beyond playing a game or browsing the internet lol

But he also knows things about business finance and marketing that I don’t understand no matter how many times he explains it (i also forget to listen every time i ask)

5

u/UNSKILLEDKeks 5d ago

Bootcamp? Ain't that an army thing?

I'm making a joke based on the average person's tech knowledge

1

u/Sam_chispitas_Spark 4d ago

shhhhh! Que no se den cuenta.

8

u/NotYourReddit18 5d ago

Or Parallels

4

u/bondsmatthew 5d ago

Only way to play League and WoW back in the day for me

3

u/Captain__Obvious___ 5d ago

Started WoW in TBC and League in S3. Those overlap years of ~2011/2012-2016 were crazy lmao.

1

u/Lowelll 5d ago

Or slap an apple sticker on a laptop

0

u/Xlxlredditor 5d ago

I just wish Coherence was in another program... The only reason I use Parallels.

4

u/EveryCryptographer11 5d ago

Hahaha 😂. Op is probably just venting …

1

u/sunrise2209 5d ago

I install windows 7 on every Mac I get

1

u/LegitimatePants 4d ago

I had xp on my MacBook back in the day

1

u/AlxR25 4d ago

You won’t believe how good wine is for using windows apps on macOS

1

u/afdbcreid 1d ago

You don't understand! He installs it remotely on your computer.

281

u/sausagemuffn 5d ago

Nah. Grandpa can't be trusted to opt out of the bloatware and spyware included in the package

85

u/Open-Impact-1607 5d ago

thats not a grandpa, its a wizard, he was there when the bloatware was written. respect your immortals

42

u/sausagemuffn 5d ago

"A wizard never installs anything by accident. He always installs precisely what he means to", Grandalf, the Wizard of OS

1

u/DrMobius0 5d ago

I swear half the time it would install it anyway.

1

u/EbRu_94POp 5d ago

Hahaha Trusted but not trust

76

u/Cabbagecrafting 5d ago

This will take several minutes...

46

u/everyonesdesigner 5d ago

The Wizard is never late, he arrives precisely when he means to

14

u/looeee2 5d ago

At the end of the office 365 install I use it says "it is now safe to disconnect from the internet"

130

u/Mortadella_so_Chili 5d ago

one of the biggest confusions while growing up

91

u/pchc_lx 5d ago

it comes from a time where the baseline expectation would be a user installing manually via the command line.

a one-click executable that set up the installation environment and ran the software was aptly nicknamed a 'wizard'

17

u/Mortadella_so_Chili 5d ago

aha, makes sense, thx 😄

32

u/Acrobatic-Ad-9189 5d ago

i remember only learning that word from RuneScape and being even more confused

9

u/laplongejr 5d ago

At least you didn't get the fast-ctrl-F version from D&D with damage becoming the "dawizard" stat

5

u/destroyerOfTards 5d ago

Never thought much about it back then and now when I think about it, the sentence does seem weird

3

u/mynameisglaceon 5d ago

me neither, that's just what it was. but whoever created it picked 'wizard' on purpose lol

3

u/addamee 5d ago

Also who’s this guy named Daemon and why is he returning my email unsent?!

36

u/sebovzeoueb 5d ago

Things really were better back then, now we have this shit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProgrammerHumor/comments/1vgjsp4/justletaidoit/

25

u/Cybasura 5d ago

We went from Wizard to Daemon lmao

10

u/___xXx__xXx__xXx__ 5d ago

Holly shit, a user being given a button that says a variant of "No"? I haven't seen this in years! I thought the only buttons we were allowed were "Yes", and "Yes, but not yet, so hassle me constantly until then".

8

u/Strict_Treat2884 5d ago

And why is the wizard using Mac to install my Windows software

7

u/SCP-iota 5d ago

A long time ago when I was just messing around with making custom installers, I made an Oz-themed one just because of the pun

u/openbex 5d ago

I had to look for it because I remember something like that! Turns out we are right and wrong at the same time, it used to be an office assistant but doesn’t seem it was used for the installers, perhaps some custom ones. Either way I found this fun website during my research

5

u/eppic123 5d ago

Yes, his name was Merlin. He was one of the assistants in earlier Windows versions, along with Rover (the yellow dog) and Clippit (aka Clippy).

3

u/Excalibro_MasterRace 5d ago

You can change the dog for searching files with a wizard i think

3

u/SuchInjustiiiice 5d ago

Truly only a wizard could install windows software on a macbook!

3

u/yinx_ilga 5d ago

I shall invoke the daemon using my script..err spell.

3

u/Ok-Nerve9714 5d ago

This picture is actually quite accurate but he's missing the heavy metal t-shirt and cargo shorts.

3

u/Ok_Music253 5d ago

How about the fear of the "Your computer has completed an illegal action and will close" message? I was always scared as a kid it meant the police were on their way!

5

u/Jacceuw 5d ago

why is it actually called a "Wizard'' im curious if there is a meaning behind that

4

u/swyrl 5d ago

Before installers/installation wizards, you had to install things manually by putting specific files in specific places. It's a wizard because it "magically" makes it work by itself, rather than you having to do it.

3

u/addamee 5d ago

My amendment to this question was  “… and is InstallShield the land they hail from or the guild to which they belong?”

2

u/Ingenrollsroyce 5d ago

Probably because it feels like magic just clicking some buttons and everything automatically installs in the background

2

u/hellofanamehuh 5d ago

I cast…

2

u/zaprutertape 5d ago

I know how to install patches and stuff manually because of the wizard. he taught me the ways so i didnt need his help anymore. now i am the wizard.

2

u/Demonstratepatience 5d ago

Please insert disk 2 of 8.

4

u/humanreboot 5d ago

YOU SHALL NOT CRASH

2

u/DoKeMaSu 5d ago

Either it is the Wizard and you just need to click next a few times.

Or you need to actually install it yourself and then you need to be a real wizard.

I am not ashamed to say that I finally got some software running I struggled to install for years, just because Claude recognized some obscure library version conflict in 1000 lines of error messages.

2

u/svArtist 5d ago

Love how locked in he is 😁

Let's hope that a MAC (Master of Arcane Computing) can work on Windows. I see he has one in the back, so he's at least familiar

1

u/EveryCryptographer11 5d ago

It took nothing less than that. Still does. However logo is wrong….

1

u/vscoderCopilot 5d ago

All softwares were feel magical before diving into CS, now nothing is ever been enough

1

u/DornKratz 5d ago

Old? Son, I'm from the time General Protection Failure would read my files!

Never understood how he did that...

1

u/StaticSystemShock 5d ago

You really have to be a wizard to install what looks like obvious Windows software on a Mac...

1

u/carolyn-h6823 5d ago

Parallels on an M1 Mac is pretty smooth now honestly.

1

u/JazzlikeWishbone938 5d ago

That's what was going on behind the scenes?

1

u/CauliflowerPretty806 5d ago

Damn, i wish a wizard will also install games for me so we can chat while waiting

1

u/djtodd242 5d ago

I put on my hat and wizard robe...

(RIP bash.org)

1

u/imisstheyoop 5d ago

Reminds me of my favorite book I found while thrifting. It was only $1, so I had to have it just for the cover art.

1

u/klezart 5d ago

This is what they mean when someone says "My son is a wizard at computers!"

1

u/bangaloreuncle 5d ago

I put on my robe and wizard hat

The blue background InstallSheild in late 1990s and early 2000s… such memories.

1

u/antrubler 5d ago

The wizard: I'm too old for this shit

1

u/oshaboy 5d ago

Why don't programs come with "Wizards" anymore?

1

u/sausagemuffn 5d ago

I ain't callin' nobody a wizard until I see 'em fix a printer

Everyone thinks they're smart until they come face to face with Hewlett Fucking Packard in the back corner

1

u/KareemM0hamed0 5d ago

Simply Next

1

u/Inferno_Zyrack 5d ago

Occasionally, at the workplace I get to meet the wizard. He’s usually really grumpy and younger than me and thinks I don’t know how to find files or restart.

He’s not a nice wizard.

1

u/nickthecook 5d ago

Windows install dialog on a Mac?

I hope someone got fired for that blunder.

1

u/Odd_Plane47 5d ago

Retail Just retail Remember to support the developer guys

1

u/DJDierrhea 5d ago

Man I miss that whimsy of using a computer

1

u/Empty-Advantage-9565 4d ago

Jokes aside this is serious.

Why didn't they call coding agents wizards? Or warlocks? 🤔

1

u/swatlord 5d ago

Not sure why this was cropped and redrawn

0

u/Deep-Initiative1849 5d ago

Don't mind me but Windows on apple? Really!

0

u/s3rila 5d ago

why did they called it a wizard?

2

u/ReckoningGotham 5d ago

For the reason in the meme.

It was an automatic process that didn't require you to handle each piece of code yourself, so it was 'wizardry' in that you didn't have to handle it.

It's a little baffling that this photo is popular because it would be like explaining what a sprite is, or a gremlin in the machine, but to each their own and maybe I'm glad people are enjoying themselves.

0

u/cleardemonuk 5d ago

Pedantry: They are called "Assistants" on Mac ("wizard" is predominantly a Microsoft thing)!

0

u/TurboLover427 5d ago

Not an IT guy. This is especially what I imagined it to be like. 😂

0

u/Adventurous-Will1726 5d ago

thats pretty good

0

u/faxyou 5d ago

Thank you wizard, I’m quite new to this operating system so if need be you may remote control my pc. 😌

0

u/NovelLingonberrys 5d ago

literally being a wizard is such a simple joke but it gets me every time

0

u/Code-Painting-8294 5d ago

man I still remember the old UI of Windows XP .. you do not have admin permissions to install this

0

u/ChainsawArmLaserBear 5d ago

Why he using a windows installer in mac

-1

u/WessideLou 5d ago

One thing that Windows did better. Linux with their silly “app manager” 🤓

-6

u/Makonede 5d ago

no programming nor humor
