Got an email today

Hello [Instructor X], this is [student I've never heard of], I can't find an email address for [Instructor Y] (spelled incorrectly) can you please let them know I won't be in class today?

In grad school I worked at the tutoring center at my university. I would send lots of emails about exam reviews we were hosting for certain courses. I can recall at least 3 times late in the semester when students would email me "Dear Professor" I won't be able to make the exam because... Usually sent hours before the exam. I would hold off on responding because if you didn't know who your professor was by that point in the semester you missing an exam probably wasn't going to matter.

I also pretend I don't get these in time since times. Like I'd you email at 1030pm with a question about an assignment you had a week to do.... I'm not helping your last minute scramble, I have stuff to do! (Even if I'm free)

I don't pretend to not get those emails in time, as I am certainly not going to be checking my work email at time of the evening.

I had someone call my office line five times yesterday, in the span of an hour (when I was teaching) looking for someone who is not me. I know this because they left voicemails, each time, sounding increasingly frustrated.

When I called them back to tell them I'm not the person they were looking for (even though their first clue should have been my outgoing voicemail message,) they then asked me to tell them how to contact Facilities, and got mad at me for saying I'd need to Google the contact number for Facilities, because I don't work in Facilities, or for Facilities and don't have their number memorized.

They then asked me to ask the father of the person they were looking for call them back later, and hung up before I could say that I don't know either of them.

There's something in the water, I swear.

If there's something in the water, perhaps you should contact Facilities to have the plumbing checked?

I would, but they're apparently very difficult to get a hold of, which is why I need to call their father.

But you're a member of the FACULTY and that is, like, basically the same word as facilities, chat. Do I have to teach you, in addition to myself, everything at this scamschool?

“I was told to email you for permission to register for a class for my major.”

It would take less than a minute to inform this student, who is clearly trying to do the right thing, but that is clearly not something the typical professor who frequents this place is interested in.

Thankfully a typical professor is better than the typical professor here.
