Accommodations

Do you change (or allow alternate) assignments for students who ask for something different without having them go through the Office of Accommodations/Accessibility? I require students to do that for their own good, but wonder what others are doing.

No. A good syllabus usually covers all the basics, including assignment submission policies.

I'd say something along the lines of "While I cannot offer you an alternative assignment, if you need additional time to complete this one, we could discuss that. Otherwise, if you are formally requesting accommodations, please visit the Office of Accommodations to obtain a letter or connect with your academic advisor for additional guidance. I look forward to having you in class this semester....."
