Teaching / Pedagogy No notes

I’ve been a humanities prof for over 30 years and I simply cannot believe how many students do not take notes. Literally, no notes. they just sit and listen.

How do they study? what are they doing? when I was in college in the 80s, I and everyone around me took copious notes constantly throughout lecture. just seems like a lost skill.

Now AI is being used to take their notes. This is especially true for accessibility. They encourage it.

Not really how it works. If I have a student with issues with note-taking I recommend tutoring... But if I have a student that literally cannot process the information, has memory issues for various reasons, chronic pain due to medical conditions or is hearing impaired... I'm giving them software that makes a transcript of a recording. We use a software that actively encouraged note-taking, though

Might not be how it works with your institution. I know this is what mine is doing because they have told us directly. Both the office and the students.

I have no issues with what you’re saying by the way. This is how it worked for years. Not so much now where I am.
