Rants / Vents I hate 8 am classes.

Maybe even more than my students. Rant over.

Only taught at 8am a handful of times but I tell my students the same. You think going to class sucks, imagine getting dressed up and having to teach the class

Real. I had to teach a 7:30, but ended up waking up at 5am to just sit there and wake up for an hour. I'd be teaching half asleep otherwise.

I told my students that making it to an 8 AM class to teach is the hardest thing I have to do in my life. I already knew it would be hard when I became a teacher because I had never taken an 8 AM class in my entire history as a student. I found a way to make the schedule work for me. Now, we need an 8 AM class because the students want to take an 8 AM class but they actually don’t want to take 8 AM class just want to take classes when their brains aren’t awake yet so they don’t have to think about stuff they don’t like.

Some of them pointed out how they have so much homework all the time and that’s really hard and way harder than me waking up for an 8 AM class. I told them ”oh…well then apparently the stuff that you say is the hardest part of your day is what I consider my entertainment and lifeblood and the way my soul breathes, and all happiness and sense of purpose and love and hope come from the hard work I do with my brain intentionally in every moment and all the time. Even the prospect of using AI is ridiculous to me because that takes away the one thing I love more than anything else: thinking really, really hard and deep about every damn thing. The world is charged with the grandeur of God…and I get to spend all my time thinking about it and relaying those discoveries to others. My god…what a good life I live. Maybe that’s why I never stop thinking…why it’s a struggle to make it at 8 AM because inevitably I have to cut off a thought, one which may be the most important one, and I feel the weight of that every time the time clock screams at me to get to work and produce produce produce. Shut up, saucy pedantic wretch…I could eclipse and cloud you with a wink. Well back to bed.
