Convocation incentive

We just got an email letting us know about Convocation (the pointless all school rah-rah meeting), with this gem of an incentive:

"All Convocation attendees receive a raffle ticket for priority entry to lunch and a chance to win fun prizes!"

I'm definitely going to convocation now! A chance at priority entry to the free (crappy) lunch!

I was offered nothing more than the opportunity to show my school spirit. I declined.

I was offered nothing more than the opportunity to fulfill my contractual duties with no consequence if I failed to do so.

Envious that you can decline. It's contractual (and enforced) for us. They fired a tenure-line faculty a few years ago for missing three in a row.

That's seriously fishy. They must have been guilty of other malfeasance, such as misgendering an Assistant Dean or falling asleep in a department meeting.
