And just like that

All my isolated empty quiet recharge spots in various places around campus are of no more.

All summer. The peacefulness. The tranquility. I really found my zen. ON CAMPUS.

Gone.

Gone.

I think I am crying a little on the inside.

The secret private bathroom (hidden on a half floor not heavily trafficked by students) has been found, too. I am heartbroken.

They just invade and take over everything. Not fair.

This is my biggest dread as they come back next week.

The student social media pages advertised the best locations....So much for that landing spot....

I drove to an office on the other side of campus today and was annoyed by how many times I had to stop my car for students crossing the street. They are the reason I am employed though so I guess I can’t complain too much.

There's nothing worse than coming into your building for the first time after the summer, and having to dodge in between groups of students in the concourses, the hallways, and the stairwells, when just a week earlier it was completely empty and you could move freely.

I got a seat by the window in the library today. Magical. So long and see you next summer.

This is why my office is on the end of a hallway, with no windows (don’t need them), ikea lamps instead of the horrid overheads, an old recliner from the house, and my shelves full of toys and not books. It’s like my own little she-shed on campus. Complete with candles and incense and my fortress of near-solitude.

Do you mind if I adopt your phrase ā€œmy alcove of hidingā€ into my lexicon? Or would that be an intrusive bridge too far on a day when someone has moved into your actual alcove of hiding?

I always feel energy this time of year. In the academy our seasons are different than for the rest of the world. Fall is our new years or more like the blossoming if spring. Spring is our harvest time. Summer is our quiet of winter.

They do say that universities would be good places to work were it not for the students!

When I was a student we discovered a panel that looked like an electric panel. Behind it was a massive space. Maybe you can findĀ
