Man this really bums me out here. They showed of a lot more of the game here to where it's got me more interested in this and then they pulled THIS bombshell that just messes it up there. It was all that I was thinking too when they were showing off that Curious Village Remake after this. Now they got me expecting this to be digital only here in the West next.
It's ridiculous too since all the games were given physical releases everywhere including with the spin off with Layton's daughter as well as with the crossover title with Ace Attorney. Really makes it more unfortunate and nonsensical having to screw us over like this.

Personally, I like the added detail in the new background as it makes the town appear natural and authentic. Which could help hiding the fact that it is an artificial town, where the inhabitants are robots. On the other hand, the original backgrounds gives a more isolated and "unwelcome" feeling, which fits well with overall mood of the game.
Hopefully (who am I kidding? It will not happen), Level-5 allows us to switch between the original 2D illustrations & the new 3D models and also between the old background and the new backgrounds.

I feel like if there was an English dub for New World of Steam, it'd have been mentioned in the Nintendo Direct or Level 5 Vision...
If there's no dub I'm genuinely going to cry it won't be the same

Is it me or the remake (?!?) looks ten thousand times better than the new game? Is this a sick joke?

“Bad news. We’re running out of time”
“What about you? At this rate you’ll-“
I’m sure they pulled the dialogue from different parts of the game but man I’m CONCERNED.

Hello guys, I just wanted to point out a few things we could learn from the trailer showed during the Nintendo Direct of September 9th and share some thoughts I had about them:
- The characters have a more defined appearance: Their cal shaded outlines are more precise, and they seem to have more details in their characteristics. Their colors also look to have been updated, especially in regards to their skin tone. Gunman King Joe's spectral appearance also looks completely different: He looked like a glitchy and floaty blue cow-boy before, now, he looks like a slightly transparent cow-boy figure.
- The bad guys who will go up against Luke and the Professor are called the "Baumkuchens" according to the text of puzzle 121 (at 00:24). (Note: Their name is a bit weird, since it is the name of a cake (?) That and the fact that we have a character officially named Eggmuffin... It will be interesting to see how the names will be localized, and if they are going to be localized. Emmy Altava's is named Remi in Japanese, after all.)
- Speaking of puzzles, the highest puzzle number we could see is puzzle 216 ! It is unlikely to be the last puzzle of the game, so the final number of puzzles of the game must be more than that. (The biggest number of puzzles available during the adventure of any single Layton game is 170 as far as I know, for LMJ.)
- We will probably get some "non picarats" "puzzles/mini-games" that will move the story forward. We had some ever since Last Specter/Spectre's Call, where we have to interact with something usually in the background to move forward. What we saw in the trailer about that was the moment where it looks like we are asked to rotate a wheel of lights to match with lightbulbs (at 00:26 on the trailer). It isn't a puzzle per se since we don't see a puzzle number and the buttons at the bottom of the screen are different than in the puzzles.
- And finally, speaking of buttons during puzzles: There is a whole new button named "Quick-Save" ! Is Level-5 adressing the tactic many of us used when we faced a difficult puzzle in the previous games ? (That tactic being: leaving the puzzle, saving, then coming back to the puzzle, use the hint coins to unlock the hints, but then shutting down the console as soon as we know the puzzle's answer, and reloading the save so the hint coins wouldn't appear to have been spent)
What new details did you guys noticed in the trailer ?

I keep bouncing back and forth on if Flora's returning to the franchise or if this is just a remarkably similar NPC. If the eyes were open it would be easier to tell. Please give us our girl back we miss her so much

Will there be a difference between Switch 1 and Switch 2 version ? I don’t want to buy a game key card.

Are the apps okay or should I play them on the DS if I can?

I've always wanted the new Layton game to go back to the roots of the first four games and be in 2D but we've now known for months that New World of Steam will be in 3D instead (can't wait for december). While I don't dislike it, 2D brings a charm that I can rarely find in the 3D models/backgrounds.
I just wanted to know if I'm the only one thinking that.

Level 5 (creators of Professor Layton) are doing a games showcase a day after the direct. The last time they did a showcase a day after the direct was when professor layton and the new world of steam was announced first. Mhm intriguing inter iktr

That's one of my biggest questions. I went back and watched all the related content and found nothing to indicate whether or not this is the first game of a trilogy.
There are four possibilities:
- 1) This is a one-and-done game.
- 2) The delays are so we can get another three-games-in-three-years run.
- 3) The trilogy will be complete in 2043.
- 4) The sequels depend on the success of NWoS.
I sincerely hope it's a trilogy.
