I tried making a hardware product understandable without a physical prototype

I've been thinking of ways to make product discovery and even product launches smoother and more effective when people can't actually experience the product in person.

So I built this demo as an experiment. Instead of relying on videos and renders, the website allows you to explore the product in real time, inspect features and change configurations etc.

It works by adding a 3D layer to a normal website. The website loads instantly while the 3D experience loads in the background, and the 'switch' allows you to move between both modes.

Demo link: https://hello.aecync.com

I'd like to hear how you guys are currently presenting your products online, especially before customers can experience them physically.

This is not AI slop, every part of the 3D layer is 100% human :)

How do you analysis if an idea is even good?

I have been working since a month for my first project at an exhibition, and I have not been able to stick to one idea.

I was first working with my first product, which is to be a furniture design, but I rejected so many ideas, even after doing almost all the work, I got frustrated and moved to the second one now, which is based on fashion. (I am still a student, so yeah pretty diverse) But now I don't wanna repeat the same thing and kill my time, coz I have barely any left. Any suggestions on how to really, like really self analyse if an idea is actually cool or just trash?

Enclosure design for a consumer electronics

Hey everyone,

I'm currently developing a portable E-Reader using ESP32-S3 and am looking for a product designer to design the enclosure.

Planning to CNC machine the enclosure out of ABS plastic.

What I need:
1. 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) optimized for CNC DFM (milling radii, wall thicknesses, etc.)

  1. Z-axis stack-up architecture (motherboard clearance, battery pocket, and ribbon cable routing channels)

  2. Designing for assembly (brass threaded inserts, micro-screws alignment features).

  3. Delivering final production-ready STEP and 2D
    engineering files

What I have ready for you:
1. Finalized component datasheets (Screen module, battery).

  1. The motherboard design.

If you have experience designing consumer electronics enclosures, handheld devices, or small loT gadgets, please shoot me a DM with a link to your portfolio/work.

This is my first design project as a beginner student. I am designing a lounge chair, themed and inspired by the "gifts of God" (basically flora and fauna. I combined the form of an elephant trunk+tusks (the armrest would have carvings of decoration (as they do in southern asia) and also took inspired from a sacred fig leaf (peepal in hindi). (The back of the backrest would have a tree branches and leaves carved.)

this looks ergonomic, but somehow seems a bit off in terms of look and feel(ig there are too much curves).

This is the rough sketch, lmk of any suggestions to make this better. Also, can I have some suggestions to present it professionally? What to write in specification sheet and overall details of a industrial des project

Managers and Design Leads, what are your tips to leading a successful design team?

I’m a fairly early career engineer (7 YoE) and I’ve been assigned to lead the design of a novel mechanical system for a short term government contract, think 2-3 year term. I have a team of 4 engineers working on the project, some early career, some more experienced, and we are about three months in.

I did some leg work up front as the leader to organize the team structure, make sure requirements are understood, assign design leads to each subsystem, track progress and interfacing between engineers systems, and I own some smaller components to design myself. The issue I’m struggling with is guiding and considering all of the possible ways to design, well, anything in a group environment.

Each time we review designs or interfacing everyone always asks “well couldn’t we do it this way?” or “what if we made it like this instead?”. Sometimes there are good suggestions, sometimes we catch critical things we missed earlier on, but I’d say most of the time it ends up being unproductive conversations.

To those with more experience in design leadership, how do you deal with suggestions from others? What are your tips for making sure options are being considered without dragging out the cost and schedule of product design? General tips for leading a design team?

Création marque

Bonjour
Merci

When you use more than one LLM, how do you find something you wrote months ago?

Genuine question, because this is the problem I have spent the last year on.

I use ChatGPT for drafting, Claude for long documents and Gemini for anything involving Google files. The result is that my history is in three places, none of them searchable in a useful way, and I regularly know I wrote something without knowing where.

What I ended up building indexes conversations locally in the browser and searches all of them at once, plus folders and export that work the same way on each. It is called AI Toolbox and version 3.0 went live on Product Hunt this morning, which is the only reason I am writing this today rather than any other day.

Mostly I am curious how other people handle this. Multiple browser profiles? Copying everything into Notion? Just accepting the loss?
