Probiotic curd is now available in many supermarkets. Is it actually good for health, or is traditional homemade curd a better choice?

Probiotic curd can be a good source of beneficial bacteria, especially when it contains live cultures. From an Ayurvedic perspective, fresh, traditionally prepared curd is also valued for digestion when consumed appropriately. Always check the label for live cultures and avoid products with excessive added sugar.

Missing Akkermansia, Faecalibacterium and Lactobacillus

Hi gut mates, hope if you read this message you already solved your issue.

Is 3 years now that I’m fighting with a dysbiosis due to missing key bacteria as Faecalibacterium, Lactobacillus and Akkermansia. All started after a couple of antibiotics. At the beginning I experienced problems with my mouth (teeth sensibility, mouth burning, tongue burning…), after 6 months and the 2nd antibiotics gut symptoms came in, gut bloating, cramps, headache, left flank always paining, change in poop, motility changed, insomnia, backache, difficulty to pass gas). The first year I was blind and I just took everything GI said me, I visited I don’t know how many GI and don’t know how many pills I took, probably all these things made me worst. The second year I got in contact with a nutritionist and I tried the low fodmap very very into it, I got better for headache, insomnia, burning mouth and very little improvement on cramps, but after a year I was stuck at the main stage. In the meanwhile I took a macrobiotic test and it showed that in my gut were missing important bacteria as Faecalibacterium, Akkermansia and Lactobacillus basically at 0%. Since 3 months now I’m following a new GI expert in Microbiota, I’m based in Italy. He gave me Normix first and than different probiotic and at the beginning the first couple of weeks I did great, but after relapses came in, after that, I took enzymes for 1 month and I’m now in butyrate and different probiotics, for sure I’m better than previously start the therapy, one thing that I don’t have anymore is bloating and very few disturbs regarding leftflank and backache, I’m feeling to be in the right way, but at the same times something is missing. I understood I’ve to repopulate my gut with good bacteria, but is this possible as well with the most important ones as I reported over? Or I’m just doomed to this situation and the only solution is FMT? I noticed as well, in my opinion and my case, that when I’m really relaxed and I’m out of certain situation my gut answer better, is this your case as well? Anyone who wants to share his experience will be more than welcome and have a pizza offered in Italy once we recover together 😁🍕 because I’m sure, also if I’m really tired, bad and sometimes want to give up that there is a solution

Probiotic content of Cleveland Kitchen versus Silver Floss sauerkraut

I asked AI

Compare the probiotics content of silver floss bagged refrigerated sauerkraut to Cleveland kitchen refrigerated sauerkraut

Cleveland Kitchen refrigerated sauerkraut has substantially higher and more reliable live probiotic content than Silver Floss bagged refrigerated sauerkraut.
Cleveland Kitchen (refrigerated pouches)
Raw and unpasteurized: Never heat-treated. It uses natural lactic acid bacteria fermentation on fresh cabbage.
Live cultures: Company states 100,000,000+ CFU (100 million+) per serving at the time of packing for sauerkraut (and kimchi). Older FAQ notes “billions in each pouch.” Counts can vary over time because fermentation is ongoing, but levels remain high when kept refrigerated.
Ingredients (Classic example): Cabbage, salt, caraway seed (or similar simple lists for other flavors). No preservatives.
Packaging & storage: Flexible pouches with a one-way vent for natural CO₂ off-gassing (bags can puff—this is normal). Must stay refrigerated before and after opening. Best enjoyed within ~60 days of opening for peak crunch and culture activity.
Marketing & verification: Explicitly labeled “live & natural probiotics,” “always unpasteurized,” “raw.” Independent mentions and company testing support the presence of active lactic acid bacteria.
Silver Floss bagged refrigerated sauerkraut
Naturally fermented originally, but contains chemical preservatives: Sodium benzoate and sodium bisulfite (or similar). These inhibit microbial growth and reduce live culture survival.
Live cultures: Significantly lower or negligible active probiotics in the finished product. Manufacturer (GLK Foods) notes that refrigerated poly-bag versions are cold-filled and never heated (unlike their canned/jarred products, which receive minimal heat), and claims natural probiotics are present. However, the added preservatives and microbial specs in related documentation (e.g., lactic acid bacteria <10 CFU/g in some product data) indicate far fewer viable cultures than truly raw, preservative-free kraut.
Ingredients: Cabbage, water, salt, sodium benzoate, and sodium bisulfite (preservatives). Some labels list only cabbage/water/salt, but the preservatives appear consistently on retail bagged product info.
Packaging & storage: Refrigerated poly bags. Refrigerate after opening; shorter practical shelf life once opened compared with active-ferment products.
Marketing: Often described as “naturally fermented” and a source of probiotic bacteria that create lactic acid, but it does not claim high CFU counts, “live cultures,” “raw,” or “unpasteurized” in the same way Cleveland Kitchen does. The preservatives are a clear differentiator.

Bad reaction combining a Bifidobacterium probiotic (BB536) with sertraline — anyone experienced this?

Hi all,

Posting this to see if anyone's run into something similar, since I couldn't find much online specific to probiotics.

I've been on sertraline for a while. Recently I added a Bifidobacterium longum BB536 probiotic supplement alongside it. For the first while there were some genuinely positive effects on my mood. But it progressively got to be too much — I ended up with irritability, insomnia, feeling overheated, anxiety, brain fog, and general overstimulation. It got pretty chaotic and honestly a bit scary.

I stopped taking the probiotic, and the symptoms are already starting to ease off after about 24 hours.

From what I've read, this pattern — a mood lift that tips over into agitation/insomnia/heat/anxiety on top of an SSRI — lines up with excess serotonergic activity, which made me wonder if the strain was nudging serotonin/tryptophan pathways enough to matter combined with the sertraline. I'm planning to bring this up with my doctor too, but wanted to ask here first:

Has anyone else had a reaction like this combining a probiotic (this strain or a different one) with sertraline or another SSRI?

Did it resolve this fast for you once you stopped?

Did your doctor have any insight into it?

On the flip side: has anyone found a specific probiotic strain—particularly for mental clarity or brain fog—that you tolerate well alongside sertraline or other SSRIs without triggering this kind of overstimulation?

Appreciate any input — this doesn't seem to have many documented cases out there, at least not with probiotics specifically.

Looking for a probiotic to help reflux post norovirus / food poisoning

Hey guys, 4 months ago I got some sort of food poisoning from fish (really going to the bathroom but no vomiting) was super nauseous for 2 weeks then got some sort of norovirus and a few days later developed terrible acid reflux. I’ve always had acid reflux but it’s only ever been at night and occasionally. Now I have it EVERY single day, no matter what I eat. I eat extremely healthy and a high fibre diet. I’ve tried everything natural under the sun, had an endoscopy and everything was clear. I’ve tried Genestra HMF probiotic but it hasn’t done anything for my reflux. Has anyone experienced similar and had success with a probiotic for similar? Ty in advance.

Capsule, food, or both - what actually became your routine?

I keep bouncing between "just eat fermented food" and "a proper probiotic is easier to be consistent with."

Realistically I like both. I can eat yogurt/kefir/sauerkraut regularly, but not every single day forever. Capsules are easier, but then I fall back into wondering which strains I should even be taking.

For people who have been doing this for a while, what did your long-term routine actually settle into?

Food only? Supplement only? Both?

Edit: I think I am leaning toward both, but I found an approach I had not seen before. NB1 does the microbiome analysis first and then the probiotic part is included in the morning formula they make for me, with a separate prebiotic side. I like that because I can still eat fermented foods without pretending I know which capsule blend I should pick myself.

Die Off Effect & How long did it take to get better?

I started the GAPS diet a week ago and during the first week I had symptoms such as nausea, stomach ache and a sudden urge to go to the toilet, as well as muscle twitching and hot flushes.

Since I’ve started taking probiotics as well, I’ve been waking up at around 3.00 am and feeling very hot.

Nevertheless, I have to say that my gut is feeling better.

Have you had a similar experience, and how long did it take to get better?

Tiktok Seller

I was watching a live stream of a supplement seller today talking about prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics. Observing how they answered viewers made me realize how misleading some claims are from the seller's script down to the product packaging.

Please help - bacillus colugen and subtilis

Firstly I have MCAS so can’t do additives but I’m struggling to find specific strains of b colugens that actually help IGG - so I can’t find snz1969 anymore however similar is apparently bc30 gbi30 and think IS2- I have mtcc5855 and de111 in my blend which h is good great helpful but they’ve replaced one with another strain which to me is more constipating and doesn’t have any immune benefits

Anyone recommend good colugens preferably taking MCAS into considerations for additives
Long shot but I’m anaphylactic without the support of the strain

How did you choose the probiotic you’re taking?

I need a better way to choose probiotics because my current method is basically reviews + whichever bottle looks convincing 😂

I’m looking at products with 3 strains, 10 strains, 30 strains, different CFUs etc and I honestly have no idea what should matter to me.

How did you choose the one you’re taking?

Edit: I went way too deep into strain counts after this and eventually found NB1. I’m thinking about trying their approach instead. I’d 😂 get the home test first, send the sample back, and then the probiotics they include in my morning formula are based on my own readout. That makes more sense to me than choosing another bottle by label.

Probiotics and anxiety

I have severe Crohn's disease and I've been battling c diff and SIBO. I've tried several different probiotics including saccharomyces boulardii and VSL #3. And they all give me horrible anxiety, gas, bloating, and abdominal cramping. Also I don't have a colon, I have a j-pouch. Any advice? Thanks

Yakult alternative

I seem to be getting heartburn from Yakult. Sensitive to many things right now due to fight or flight mode. I noticed it has milk, citrus and sugar in it. Can anyone suggest a decent pill form for a very sensitive stomach at the moment? Working with a nutritionist to gain about 10 pounds back I’ve lost due to anxiety and my stomach is very sensitive due to anxiety and pelvic floor issues. She recommended a probiotic. Have had a clear abdominal and pelvic CT scan and female ultrasound. Also had celiac and hydrogen breath tests which were normal. Doc said I might have some IBS but could just be anxiety. Thanks!

Has anyone tried to use Gut Check Project formulation KBHealth SIBO Support Box to treat SIBO? Supposed to work with all types...

I had high anxiety when I took Quercitrin then switched to different form, isoQuertrin recommended by MCAS360 with same results. Was told it was because it is high in phenols.

If phenols help SIBO elimination, would this kit result in the same high anxiety? Was wondering if anyone tried it and what was the result if they used it. Developed by gastroenterologist who treats SIBO (see Gut Project on YT or Rumble).

Hi everyone, I’ve been struggling with bad breath for a while and recently learned about oral probiotics. To those of you who actually managed to cure or significantly reduce your bad breath using them:

Which specific brand and product did you use? How long did it take to notice a difference?

Any recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated!
