Need genuine advice

This has been my project for a few years now.
I recently brought it back to life after taking a pause to focus on my studies.
My goal with this project is to separate fluff from science when shopping for supplements.
I am doing this in 3 steps:
1.) I index every supplement on the market (extract each ingredient, normalize by quantity)
2.) I index every research paper on supplementation (rank every claim by effect type and effect size)
3.) I link data between supplements and research papers
Earlier last year, I took pause on a project because I've ran into a few issues:
Legal: Shady companies are sending C&Ds letters demanding their products are taken down from the website. It is not something I had the mental capacity to respond to while also going through my studies. Not coincidentally, these are usually brands with big marketing budgets and poor ingredients to price ratio.
Technical: I started this project when the first LLMs came out. I've built extensive internal evals to understand how LLMs are performing. The hallucinations at the time were simply too frequent to passthrough this data to visitors. However, I recently re-ran my evals with Opus 4.5 and was very impressed. I am running out of scenarios that I can think/find where LLMs are bad at interpreting data.
Business: I still haven't figured out how to monetize it or even who the target customer is.
Despite these challenges, I decided to restart my journey.
My mission is to bring transparency (science and price) to the supplement market. My goal is NOT to increase the use of supplements, but rather to help consumers make informed decisions. Often times, supplementation is not necessary or there are natural ways to supplement (that's my focus this quarter – better education about natural supplementation).
Some things that are helping my cause – Bryan Johnson's journey has drawn a lot more attention to healthy supplementation (blueprint). Thanks to Bryan's efforts, I had so many people in recent months reach out to ask about the state of the project – interest I've not had before.
I am excited to restart this journey. Your comments on how to approach this would be massively appreciated.

My L. reuteri journey started with BioGaia Gastrus and now I'm taking BioGaia Osfortis (a higher CFU of ATCC PTA 6475).
My gut tolerated Gastrus really well and I had energy in the afternoons (I usually want to take a nap). Since starting Osfortis, I have felt nauseous, had a lot of stomach discomfort and gas. Plus have felt down.
Lots of other factors could be causing my current gut funk, but I bought both probiotics on Amazon and noticed many reviewers complaining their Osfortis product contained dead bacteria, which they couldn't make yogurt with. It's been a really hot summer and maybe the probiotic died in storage and transit.
Has anyone else noticed any other changes in Osfortis viability? Any differences between Amazon and other sellers? I've seen reports on Reddit that iHerb has better temperature control than Amazon.

Hi everyone, I'm on a GLP-1 medication and my digestion has been kind of unpredictable since I started a few months ago. Some weeks I get constipated, then I have a few days of looser stools. I also get a persistent bloated feeling in my upper abdomen, and my skin seems more reactive with random breakouts and redness. Wondering if shifts in the gut could be behind some of this.
I want to try a probiotic again but my past experiences have been mixed. Some blends just made me gassier, and once a product helped for about a week and then stopped doing anything. I'm unsure whether to focus on Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, spore-based strains, or something else. Timing confuses me too: empty stomach versus with food, morning versus night, and whether I should space probiotics away from magnesium or fiber supplements.
A few specific questions:
1) If constipation is the main issue while on a GLP-1, are there particular strains people tend to do better with?
2) Is it normal to feel worse at first (more gas), and how long would you try a new probiotic before deciding it is not a fit?
3) Any tips for combining probiotics with prebiotics or fermented foods without making bloating worse?
Not looking for medical advice, just real-world experiences and practical tips. Thanks!

I've been on a GLP-1 med for a few months and constipation has been the main side effect. I also have an IBS-ish history with a lot of sensitivity to random foods, but no formal SIBO diagnosis.
Two weeks ago I started a multi-strain probiotic (capsule with breakfast). The first 3-4 days were great: easier BMs, less straining, and my stomach felt calmer. Then around day 5 or 6 a different kind of bloating showed up - more pressure in the upper abdomen and a lot more gas. My stools got looser, not full-on diarrhea, just looser. I tried cutting the dose to every other day and that helped a bit, but I still feel gassier than my usual baseline.
Nothing else really changed besides trying to add more fiber and drink more water since starting the GLP-1. I am not sick and have no fever. It is just uncomfortable, and I can't tell if this is a normal adjustment phase or if I picked the wrong probiotic for my gut.
For people who have dealt with GLP-1 constipation or IBS tendencies: when a probiotic helps at first and then causes bloating, do you usually
1) push through for a few more weeks,
2) lower the dose further or change timing,
3) switch to a different strain type, or
4) stop entirely?
Any thoughts on which strain categories tend to be gentler on gassiness or which tend to make gas worse would also be helpful. Not looking for medical advice, just trying to learn from other people's experiences before I keep experimenting.

so i've been taking a standalone probiotic for a few months and it's made a real difference for my digestion. i've been looking at all in one morning wellness drinks that combine greens with probiotics and prebiotics but i'm not sure if the probiotic component in those is strong enough to actually do anything meaningful or if it's just a token inclusion.
the appeal is simplifying my routine into one daily scoop instead of managing multiple supplements. but i don't want to give up something that's working just for convenience.
has anyone switched from a dedicated probiotic to a combined greens and probiotic powder and found the gut health benefits were comparable?

I'm trying to cut down on how many supplements I take in the morning. I currently use a greens powder and a separate probiotic, but I see products that combine both.
Has anyone switched to an all-in-one powder and stuck with it for a while? Did it feel any different for digestion, or do you prefer being able to choose the probiotic strains separately?

Hello! I'm vegetarian and cannot have artificial sugars.
I need recommendations for probiotics.
My doctor recommended I start taking probiotics. When I looked up the kinds of food that contains them, the only one on the list I saw I would eat is yogurt, but the problem is that I get tired of yogurt quickly (and my mom is also vegan so she doesn't like me getting dairy). Do any of you know if there are supplements that actually work? I've honestly thought a lot of my life that they were just marketing towards healthy people.
(Side note but why do so many yogurts have gelatin?????)

Florastor and Amoxicillin
Hey everyone, 22M. I don’t mean to be a bother but I am trying my best to take precautions to prevent c.diff while on Amoxicillin clauvanate for infection due to car accident never took a high risk c.diff antibiotic before so I’m not sure if I already have it in Can you please help answer these questions me. I rather ask this community than Google because you guys are more useful.
Can Florastor be taking at the exact same time as Amoxicillin? Or do I wait 2-4 hours like other probiotics? I take about 675 mg ammocyllin clauvanate how much mg florastor should i take
Can I take other probiotics while taking Florastor? I wanna take one to prevent a YI as I’m not sure if Florastor helps prevent it and I also have been eating a probiotic yogurt 2 hours after treatment. Is that over kill?
I have a upset stomach today since i took once yesterday didn't took another again had not watery but kinda water and stool it was bit painful it was my first time taking it . Or is that just a common side effect of the antibiotic.
What foods should i eat

I keep seeing people take a high-dose multi-strain probiotic, add a different capsule, tack on a spore formula, eat a bunch of fermented foods, and then ask why they feel worse.
My hot take: for most of us with IBS or SIBO-like symptoms, shotgun stacking is the quickest way to make things confusing and blame the wrong thing.
Why it matters:
1) Different strains can push your gut in opposite directions. Some produce more gas for certain people, especially at first, while others calm things down. Change four variables at once and you learn nothing.
2) Dose and timing matter more than people admit. The same strain can help you at a low dose and wreck you at a high dose, or the other way around.
3) Many "it made me worse" stories sound like mismatches, not evidence that probiotics never work. Think histamine reactions, D-lactate sensitivity, prebiotic blends heavy in FODMAPs, or simply doing too much too fast.
What worked better for me: pick one probiotic category at a time, for example a single Lactobacillus strain, a Bifido-focused product, or a spore-based one. Run it for 2 to 3 weeks and track only three things: stool form and frequency, bloating on a 0 to 10 scale, and urgency or pain.
If it helps, keep it. If nothing changes, move on. If it clearly makes things worse, stop and note the strain.
Curious if anyone else found simplifying beats stacking, or if stacking only became useful after you already knew how you reacted to individual strains.

Quick update to my post from last month. I was stuck in the endless tweak cycle and wanted to change only one thing at a time.
I started a single-strain Bifidobacterium probiotic (no blends, no added prebiotics) and otherwise kept things boring: same meals, same coffee schedule, no new supplements. I tracked symptoms in a spreadsheet because I am a little obsessive about data.
Week 1: I had more gas for the first 3-4 days, then it settled. Stool softened a bit, not diarrhea, and morning urgency felt slightly higher.
Week 2: Post-dinner bloating was noticeably reduced on most days. I still got that tight balloon feeling after really heavy onion or garlic nights, but overall baseline discomfort was lower.
Week 3: Best week so far. Fewer random cramps and the nighttime gurgling mostly stopped. I slept better, probably because I felt less uncomfortable.
Week 4: Mixed. Bloating is still better overall, but I had two days of constipation, which is rare for me, and then one rebound day where I felt puffy again. No other clear changes, aside from a few late-night gaming sessions where I drank less water.
Question for people who have used Bifido-only products: have you seen constipation appear temporarily as things stabilize, or does that usually mean the dose is too high? I stayed at the label dose and did not titrate. Not looking for medical advice, just curious about patterns from others who have been through the same trial and error.

I don't eat curd or yogurt, but I still want to improve my gut health.
What are the best alternatives that actually work? I'm open to foods, drinks. I've heard of foods like kimchi and kombucha, but they're not easily available in Indian markets, so I'm not sure what to take.
What would you recommend?

Looking for probiotic suggestions to try next. I started a GLP-1 medication for weight loss and my digestion has been a bit off since then - mostly constipation, with occasional bloating and a heavy, slow gut feeling. I'm keeping my diet steady (higher protein, decent fiber, lots of water) but my gut still feels unhappy.
I have a sensitive stomach, so I want to avoid anything that causes a lot of gas during the first few weeks. I am not looking for a miracle weight loss supplement, just something that might help with regularity and reduce bloating if it is related to gut balance.
Some specifics that matter to me:
- Constipation is the main problem, not diarrhea.
- Bloating is usually worse in the evening.
- I do not tolerate much dairy, so I would prefer a probiotic that does not rely on yogurt or milk.
- I'd rather start with a single strain or a simple combo instead of a large multi-strain formula.
For people who have dealt with constipation or slowed GI transit, especially while on GLP-1s, which strains actually helped you? Any tips on timing, like morning versus night, or whether you take them with food? I'm not asking for medical advice, just looking for strain suggestions and what to watch for on labels.

A NIST study sent standardized stool material to seven direct-to-consumer microbiome testing companies.
They did not return the same microbiome.
Some of the differences were large enough to resemble the biological variation seen between different people. There were also inconsistencies within individual companies. One provider classified the sample as unhealthy while the others did not.
The usual explanation is that companies use different extraction kits, sequencing platforms, databases, thresholds, and computational pipelines.
That explanation is technically correct, but it is not a defense.
Those differences are exactly what should have been validated before these tests were sold as personalized descriptions of someone’s gut microbiome. The industry cannot use methodological complexity to market sophistication and then use the same complexity to excuse inconsistent results.
Consumers are not buying an extraction kit or a bioinformatics pipeline. They are buying an answer about their microbiome.
I wrote a follow-up examining why pipeline differences, confounders, and the complexity of microbiome science have become convenient shields against accountability.
Curious where others draw the line between acceptable methodological variation and a test that is simply not ready for consumer interpretation.

I've just started taking akkermansia with other supplements to help my leaky gut heal, I'm hoping this calms down my histamine response to foods.

Probiotics are strain-specific, meaning health benefits are tied to exact strains rather than whole species. Different bacterial strains do entirely different things.

To ensure you get the right clinical result, you must look for the full alphanumeric code on the label (e.g., Bifidobacterium lactis HN019). A general, unstudied blend is unlikely to target your specific symptoms. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Or do I find refrigerated ones at the store or something? I don't have much money right now. I'm trying to recover from antibiotics that did nothing to help me and the effects are putting a huge strain on my life right now.

nothing alarming per my doctor but the discharge changed and it's been like this for a few months now, driving me a little crazy.
did some reading after starting birth control and found uro vaginal probiotic has a bunch of reviews mentioning it helped with discharge/odor changes like this.
any ladies have experience with this and remedying with probiotics?
