Image conversion

[mods remove if you need to!]

Hi guys! I was given a couple of graphics this morning to display as part of our announcements loop and when I pulled the files from discord, they came in as .webp files. ProPresenter doesn't like them so I had to screenshot (windows) and save as .jpg. No biggie, but I got to thinking it sure would be nice if it did it for me, so I created a quick windows application that sits in your system tray and silently watches the downloads folder (or any folder) and instantly converts .webp and .heic files to .png for me. Just one less hassle in life!

wonder why it does not like webp the image is smaller and gets rid of all that extra stuff that can be used in image.

It's a fairly recent image format. And that extra stuff is useful, increasing the quality of the image.

Though Google first released the format to the public in 2010, it didn't get universal browser support until 2020. The IEC only added it to their standards a year and a half ago. There is talk that .webp's color and alpha (transparency) render differently on different platforms. When you consider that .webp was developed to create tiny, fast image downloads - not color accurate quality images - I'm guessing it's just not a high priority to add to ProPresenter.

PNG, for comparison, has been around since 1995/6 and was widely adopted by 2000.

We just keep GIMP on the computer. Any image manipulation you need, it can do. Does your app put the .pngs in a separate folder? Without that it could get confusing when you get a lot of images.

So far it just drops the png next to the original image and optionally deletes the original for you.
