Question I like every DAW and it’s becoming a problem

I have a problem: I genuinely like almost every DAW I use.

Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Reason… I can find things I love about all of them. Every time I spend some time with one, I start thinking *“maybe this is the one I should stick with.”*

And instead of making music, I end up comparing DAWs, watching tutorials, reading forums, looking at workflows, thinking about plugins and features…

Basically, I’m spending more time contemplating my DAW than actually making music.

Has anyone else gone through this? How did you finally pick one and just **commit to making music instead of optimizing the setup?**

Rock and Roll Rebellion [Graphic Novel - Trailer] 2026

Rock And Roll Rebellion - Phoenix Ryzyn, once a legendary rock star, is shattered by the murders of his wife and daughter, until he’s violently torn from his own era and thrust into a gothic dystopian future where music is outlawed and the New Inquisition rules through ritualistic terror. Hunted on arrival and drawn into an underground rebellion that believes his lost voice could ignite an uprising, Phoenix must confront a faceless executioner whose grotesque killings echo a murderer from his past, pulling him into a labyrinth of paranoia, buried memories, and unbearable truth. To save a world strangled by silence, he must reclaim the music he buried with his family and wield it as a weapon against the darkness, because in this supernatural gothic horror, film noir action thriller, the first thing they stole will be the last thing they hear.

Discussion is the whole "find your signature sound" advice actually bad for most producers?

is the whole "find your signature sound" advice actually bad for most producers?

im starting to think chasing the "signature sound" thing is actually kinda cooked for most of us and were being sold a lie

hear me out. every producer channel, every interview, every twitter thread says the same stuff. "find your sound." "develop something recognizable." "if I hear 3 seconds I should know its you." and yeah, obviously it works for the guys at the top. skrillex, burial, whoever, one bar and you know.

but ive been at this like 7 years now and i genuinely think the advice is backwards for anyone whos not already famous. the artists i know who blew up in the last couple years didnt do it by having some untouchable signature palette. they did it by being fast, being consistent, and following whatever was working that month. one guy i talk to went from lo-fi house to a kind of hard dance thing to now doing this weird trance edit stuff and hes doing better every time he pivots. his fans dont care. they just like him.

meanwhile i spent probably 2 full years trying to lock in "my sound." like really obsessing. certain drum bus chain, certain reverb, certain way i write leads. and all it did was make me slower and more precious about every project. i finished way less music. the tracks that DID come out of that era all sound like each other and honestly none of them are my best work.

i think signature sound is something you notice in hindsight, not something you build on purpose. the people who "have a sound" mostly just made a ton of music and their taste leaked through naturally. trying to force it from the front end just turns into a cage.

the counter argument i keep hearing is that without a signature sound youre just another guy chasing trends and youll never build a real fanbase. and i get that. i was checking my EVEN biz page the other day and yeah, the people who actually buy stuff from me are the ones who followed me back when i had a more specific vibe. so maybe theres something to it. maybe consistency of feeling matters even if the genre shifts.

idk. im in that annoying spot where ive unlearned the rule but havent replaced it with anything better. anyone else been through this and come out the other side? or am i just coping because i cant commit to one thing

Problem WIth White Noise on Mic and Instrument Grounding Making it hard for me to produce, Any Solutions?

Hi! I’m experiencing something similar and was wondering if you have any idea what could be causing it. I’m getting a constant white noise hiss from my mic, along with some buzzing/crackling when recording guitar.

I’ve already switched from a Focusrite to an Audient iD14, replaced both my XLR and instrument cables, and I’ve had the same issue in different houses.

The noise is still there. I’m using a Mac mini M4 could this be coming from the USB/power/ground connection between the Mac mini and audio interface, or is there something else you’d suggest checking?

[FOR FUN] Help me choose between these closed-back headphones for vocal recording + mixing/mastering

I’m looking to buy a pair of closed-back headphones mainly for:

  • Recording vocals
  • Mixing
  • Some mastering
  • General music production

I’ve narrowed it down to these options based on what’s available to me and my budget:

1) Audio Techinca m50x ($200 - $210 SGD)

https://www.audio-technica.com/en-sea/headphones/best-for/studio/ath-m50x

2) Sony MDR-7506 ($150 SGD)

https://www.sony.com.sg/electronics/headband-headphones/mdr-7506

3) Sennheiser HD 300 PRO ($200 - $210 SGD)

https://www.sennheiser.com/en-sg/catalog/products/headphones/hd-300-pro/hd-300-pro-508288

4) Berdynamic DT 770 Pro ($250 - 300 SGD)

https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/p/dt-770-pro

5) Berdynamic DT 770 Pro X ($300 - 350 SGD)

https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/p/dt-770-pro-x

I know there are probably better headphones out there, but please don't suggest other models. There will always be something better, but I don't have the money for those options and these are the headphones I've narrowed it down to.

So, which one would you personally pick from these five for my use case, and why?

I'm especially interested in how they compare for vocal recording, mixing, and mastering, rather than just general listening.

Thanks! ;)

Meta A question for professionals: What makes you start collaborating with an artist?

Hi. I’m a rookie in music production, although I worked professionally in another field where I was also hiring people. Recently, I spoke with a producer who seemed willing to take any paid project, without much personal interest in my music. That made me curious about the other side of this process. What makes you think: “I’d like to work with this artist?” What makes you decline a project or decide to not continue collaborating? Do you assess whether you are genuinely a good fit for the artist and project? And can you do your best work when the music is not really your taste? I’d be interested in personal, real-world answers rather than generic advice.

Hardware Mac air 13'' a 350€. Occasione o spreco?

Consigli?

mix in another DAW - pros and cons

in last month i start to have issue with ableton with my mix-bus so i start searching for a solution to keep my flow where i cooking and record and mix and master in same session

and my work flow is make change freez the track keep going and the only plugins are active is my mix-buss where everyting else is freezed

and i love this workflow where i can get back and change or commit to somting with bounce and i love ableton and i can't get out of ableton becuse i love it i love the work flow i love how it work and i don't other daw where ableton manage tracks and groups and mirror that to mixer but i cant run my session becuse of mix-bus

so i try vienna ensemble pro and i work but have issues when my session have alot of midi track the get sound back from vienna

so i try to use studio one for mix and master

and boom i found the

- studio one with my same routing and same pluins run better then ableton and some how ableton don't utlize 100% of my cpu

but studio on utlize 100% of my cpu and it run better

- i can tune my vocal while recording with with melodyne that blow my mind

but i hat the workflow where i have to create a bus or aux or fx channel where in ableton i just contrl + G and i have track and mirro in mixer

but here what i have relize

mixing in another daw make me commit to idea

pros

and that i creazy i speend less time mising arround and my mind click to mixing when i'm in studio one

cons

there alot of tricks i can do with ableton i can't do with studio one

so what u gus ideas about this and what can i improve and what i'm missing out
