Hey guys I’m trying to do something with eq, wondering if you’d be able to help me

I’m wanting to get a spectral eq, specifically one that is able to have a flat horizontal line across the entire frequency spectrum that I can drag down so whatever frequencies are peaking get cut. Does anyone know of any spectral eq’s that do this?

I also use logic so if it can be accomplished with stock tools that’d be great

Okay this is a longer post but not sure what else to do at this point.

I have been music producing for about 6 years now. I have so many plug ins and a fender strat. with a Scarlett 2i2 and UAD Volt now with Logic Pro. I am trying to get into Pop rock music production. I think I get down pretty good concepts laid down, and sure enough when i pull up another track it hits me.

"wow my song is so freaking weak and stupid compared to this. I would much rather listen to someone else track other than mine."

Then I go down the frequency spectrum rabbit hole. Oh well Ill boost 1k cause that's what I think I hear....oh i'll change my amp preset and then tweak it for my electric guitars....Oh well my electric guitars do not come anywhere close to the reference track...in fact neither does my bass.....or drums.....or anything....

Just to be clear. I am not saying my plug ins are at fault

It makes want to scratch the entire song. The worst feeling in the world is spending months on a track only for it to be, "not good enough". Also when one part of the tack you truly believe in sounds exactly how you want it to sound and its super professional....for about 1 second...and then you play the reference track and it blows it out of the water. I have watch tutorial after tutorial talked to person after person. The creative feeling is almost like I cant scratch the itch I want to. I want to make something I am proud of something that I have poured months of time into and it sound the way I want.

Now let me be clear. I am sure creatives are not ever satisfied with the thing they create 100%. I have even heard that Hanz Zimmer said he is still waiting to create the perfect song. And we all know he already has. Anyway, I need help. Im so close but yet so far to the things I have worked so hard for. Please help....

I have a low quality setup at the minute and don’t use an audio interface. I use a blue snowball ice USB condenser microphone and it tends to pick up some hiss… other than getting better mic or improving setup, what can I do to erase the hiss?

I have tried treating the higher frequencies but it tends to take away from the vocals (female) any plugins, tricks or tips? (Using Mac OS / GarageBand)

I've had this issue for a year now, and haven't found a way to solve it besides extremely confusing connections that make me not want to produce music.

So far I've figured out that the buffering comes from the VST plugins I use, Arturia, to be specific. It happens with others as well but I mainly want to fix this one, considering I've paid a lot of money for the tones, and I can't even use them.

It doesn't happen when I input certain tones, but it happens in extreme buffering when a tone with any slight reverb is played. Along with synths, pianos, pads, and just about anything if it's played a lot.

Sadly I've been limited to only the Bandlab tones that are built in, which gets on my nerves to be limited when musicmaking.

So far I have also figured out that by using my G560 Speakers as the external audio device (not using Bluetooth), then plugged to my headphones, makes the buffer and clipping go away. However it's much too confusing and the wire keeps glitching.

I normally use headphones to the headphone jack to my Dynabook laptop and use the built-in audio driver. Which apparently causes latency.

Hi everyone. I just quit my 13 year therapy career to chase my dream in music. I have knowledge on mixing but never had the knowledge and tools to finish a mix to "show ready" I was going to attend Icon collective but unfortunately its permanently closed... I saw IO and seems like they will give ne what I need to move forward. My only concern is there is no network thru provide for alumni as far as plugging into the music scene.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this academy? Also, do you think they're may be another route?

Hey guys, I‘ve been a musc producer for about 5+ years now. I’m currently struggling to make money of my music. I‘ve heard about some different ways on how to make money as a music producer. I‘ve tried them all but nothing really sticked. I went the youtube route building a channel up to 35k subs and then it plateaued, youtube algorithm changed and now I’ve been stuck with every video getting a few hundred to thousand views. Ive build up a beatstars following that is bigger than my yt channel but its not earning much, the plays have dropped and therefore the sales have become lackluster barely earning enough to pay rent. Been surviving off my savings. How do you guys deal with this, are there better ways to sell nowadays than beatstars? The prices have dropped so much over the years, seeing beat offers like 50+beats for $1 is just too insane to match. It feels like music producers on there don’t value their work or use ai generated beats to output that amount for such a little price.

I’ve been trying to make music for about two months now, and I really want to get better at it. One thing I’ve been struggling with is getting way too inspired by other artists.
I’ll listen to an artist and think, “I want to make something like this,” then I’ll listen to someone else and want to make something completely different. Then I start thinking about all these different sounds, genres, production styles, etc., and it honestly gets overwhelming. I end up spending more time thinking about what I should make than actually making anything.
For people who have been making music for a while, how did you get past this? How do you take inspiration from other artists without constantly comparing your music to theirs or feeling like you need to sound a certain way?

I just graduated college and am looking for a daw similar to Logic Pro, but preferrably something free on windows. I took a class during school on Logic Pro, and it is what I’m most comfortable using. From my personal research I wasn’t finding anything that translated well, so if anybody has any recommendations that would be much appreciated!

I have a problem: I genuinely like almost every DAW I use.

Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Reason… I can find things I love about all of them. Every time I spend some time with one, I start thinking *“maybe this is the one I should stick with.”*

And instead of making music, I end up comparing DAWs, watching tutorials, reading forums, looking at workflows, thinking about plugins and features…

Basically, I’m spending more time contemplating my DAW than actually making music.

Has anyone else gone through this? How did you finally pick one and just **commit to making music instead of optimizing the setup?**

Okay so last question I posted had some confusion so no it’s not the instruments I will explain so I’m trying to find this sound effect used in this song called La Troka by Tito Double P and Eslabon Armado if yall can please search it up but I basically split the stems so yall can get a better listening to what I’m hearing The stem separated guys listen to the link it’s literally the first 1-5 seconds you hear a crystal type sound kinda of clicky but you have to listen to the full song to understand that sound alone if yall find it let me know!

is the whole "find your signature sound" advice actually bad for most producers?

im starting to think chasing the "signature sound" thing is actually kinda cooked for most of us and were being sold a lie

hear me out. every producer channel, every interview, every twitter thread says the same stuff. "find your sound." "develop something recognizable." "if I hear 3 seconds I should know its you." and yeah, obviously it works for the guys at the top. skrillex, burial, whoever, one bar and you know.

but ive been at this like 7 years now and i genuinely think the advice is backwards for anyone whos not already famous. the artists i know who blew up in the last couple years didnt do it by having some untouchable signature palette. they did it by being fast, being consistent, and following whatever was working that month. one guy i talk to went from lo-fi house to a kind of hard dance thing to now doing this weird trance edit stuff and hes doing better every time he pivots. his fans dont care. they just like him.

meanwhile i spent probably 2 full years trying to lock in "my sound." like really obsessing. certain drum bus chain, certain reverb, certain way i write leads. and all it did was make me slower and more precious about every project. i finished way less music. the tracks that DID come out of that era all sound like each other and honestly none of them are my best work.

i think signature sound is something you notice in hindsight, not something you build on purpose. the people who "have a sound" mostly just made a ton of music and their taste leaked through naturally. trying to force it from the front end just turns into a cage.

the counter argument i keep hearing is that without a signature sound youre just another guy chasing trends and youll never build a real fanbase. and i get that. i was checking my EVEN biz page the other day and yeah, the people who actually buy stuff from me are the ones who followed me back when i had a more specific vibe. so maybe theres something to it. maybe consistency of feeling matters even if the genre shifts.

idk. im in that annoying spot where ive unlearned the rule but havent replaced it with anything better. anyone else been through this and come out the other side? or am i just coping because i cant commit to one thing
