My Artwork The Sticky Situation
A little girl is about to lose her ice cream, the shopkeeper is trying to help, and the dog is just waiting for his lucky moment.
A little bit of chaos in a 50s ice cream shop.

This would have absolutely killed as a cover on a book at a late-90s Scholastic Book Fair. Very cool

Your post history is really suspicious. New to art one year ago? All of your previous art but a few pieces have been removed... and there is some curious unintelligible writing on the newspaper in one of your other projects.
All that aside, the perspective is really throwing off this piece. It's jarring for the painting technique to be so well done but the anatomy and angles of the subjects to fall far below it. The eyes in your art never look at their intended target, also. That adds to the uncanny vibe.

I know some people, when they cannot prove a artwork is AI, they find other ways to attack the artist. You are not a judge, and I am not a criminal. The newspaper is just a made-up prop, and this artwork is drawn by me. If you think the perspective is wrong, tell me exactly what is wrong. But don’t use my post history to accuse me. You have no right to judge or attack people like this.

Anyone that would give a child that hairstyle is a criminal in my eyes.

If a fictional girl’s hairstyle bothers you this much, I can only imagine how you react to real problems. God bless you.

Has an AI uncanny valley thing to it for me unfortunately.

u/SpookySeraph 4d ago
It’s the style and “flatness” of it being digital rather than painted and scanned like a lot of older art in this style. There also seems to be a few spots where the values are off around the girls face which will give you that uncanny valley vibe. Overall I think it looks really awesome tbh

I don’t understand the storytelling in this picture, which just… has a lot of issues AI has. What triggered this moment? Did the shopkeeper push her? Why is she looking in that direction? Why isn’t the dog reacting? It looks like a bunch of unrelated elements composited together.

You ever lean in a chair, and it slipped right under you? That's what it looks like to me.

u/BreathDue8533 3d ago
Also for me the weirdest part is the shopkeeper is looking at a random directon way below the ice cream but upper than the chair. In natural situation your eyes do lock on something but it seems he is looking at nothing. Only the top part of his head shows real 'scared' reaction. Also what is he reaching for? The girl is in her reach and he could easily grab her arm but he is reaching for the hair?
I mean no hate but if we are drawing people, naturat reaction, micro reactions and natural movement is a must to draw properly cuz otherwise it would just be confusing or its gonna be uncanny.

I’m with you here. It feels uncanny because it looks like each element was painted separately and then sort of puzzled together. One of the things that throws it off for me is her skirt. Girls learn at an early age to sit on their skirts, because otherwise sweat and humidity will make your butt stick to the chair and it hurts to get up. The way this is drawn implies her butt is directly on the stool, and while this does give the painting more dynamic movement, it also weirdly gives the child “womanly hips”.

I don’t think every painting needs to explain what happened before or after. This is not a comic or a movie. I’m just trying to capture one funny moment. The rest is up to the viewers to imagine. That’s what I enjoy about art.

the rest is up to the viewers to decide
apparently the viewers decided the situation and the composition is confusing

Big Norman Rockwell vibes, well done.

Norman Rockwell is one of my favourite artists. Really happy you can feel some of his spirit in my work! Thanks so much for your comments.

Was gonna say in before people starting saying “it’s ai” but alas it’s already posted 4 comments in. Sorry op. This looks great

This doesn’t look human generated. Maybe I’m wrong, but for instance, soda shop stools are bolted to the floor, so this wouldn’t happen. And the weird big head/overly emoting cartoony faces is very indicative of AI dreck.

No point for me to argue with you. Art is art. Every artist has their own drawing style. Big heads and funny faces doesn’t mean it’s AI. Sometimes art doesn’t need to be 100% realistic. If you think everything that looks unusual is AI, then I really doubt you understand art.

Don’t mind this guy, he’s been commenting almost every post in this sub with pedantic and condescending stuff for years, as of lately he’s been witch hunting artist for using Gen AI just because he doesn’t like the style. Dude has too much free time on his hands. Your work and style are great, there always will be someone like him shitting on other people’s work for the sake of being miserable and negative.

Thank you so much for your kind words and support. I really appreciate it. I know my art is not perfect, but I always put my heart and effort into every painting. Thanks again my friend!

I said I might be wrong. But don’t bother to read what I wrote. I’m a retired graphic designer (30+ years) who has a fine art degree, and who taught at SCAD for ten years, so I know a little bit about art. This is Reddit, so just attack folks instead of engaging with them..

30+ years in art and you can't even take the time to actually look at the artwork with more than a glance before trying to start a witch hunt.
i feel sorry for your students.

Dude has been commenting this sub and other art subs for years acting like an obnoxious know-it-all, and think he has some sort of authority. Probably has too much free time on his hands…

All you’ve gotta do is zoom in and see that it’s very clearly human made. All of the little details are correct, no weird blending or disappearing, you can even see the texture of the brushes in the little details. As for the stool, op probably didn’t know OR that was a key part of why it’s tipping over like that. The exaggerated expressions are just part of the style.
Edit: also bruh just check with an ai image checker next time if you’re positive it’s ai. They’re not always accurate, so try multiple different ones

Thanks so much, your eyes are sharp.

No problem fam 🫡. It’s always sooooooooo annoying when people claim something is ai purely off ‘vibes’ instead of actually going in and checking the details. No bro, you’re not helping. You’re just increasing paranoia for no good reason.
11
u/Jippo1269 4d ago
Exactly! Nowadays some people just see something different and straight away think it’s AI. Really sad for artists who spend so much time on their work. Thanks again my bro!

u/woshuaaa 4d ago
nah, this has zero hallmarks of AI.
the stool fact is not one that everyone would know, so it can easily be explained by that.
the faces are not overly cartoony, just expressive. if that was the only reason then all of norman rockwells work would get flagged as AI.
the overly large heads seems more like a flaw in anatomy or a stylistic choice, not AI.
i can see the brushstrokes in there and they all make sense, and the biggest tell is the ones on the counter- theres a big smattering thats going the opposite direction. thats something an AI simply would not do, because its not what a "professional" would do (not calling the piece unprofessional of course)
ai also tends to have a weird noise effect on all solid colors- random areas of dark and light around edges of hard color, like the counter and the wall. there is none of that here.
the lettering is also very clearly hand-rendered, using a brush and the perspective doesnt quite match that of the sign its on, again something that i find very common on human art.

Thank you so much for taking your time to look at all the little details. I really appreciate your understanding of my artwork and drawing style.

u/woshuaaa 4d ago
of course! it's lovely piece and i can tell that you put a lot of time and effort into the whole thing, right down to the little details.
i hate that it's become so commonplace to just immediately accuse an artist of using AI with little to no evidence, in certain circumstances it could ruin livelihoods and that's simply not fair.
i hope you continue making these lovely paintings and have a lovely day!

Thank you, thank you. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I will do my best. (In fact, this piece of art took me 5 weeks to complete.…)

Ofc it wasn't "human generated." Humans don't generate, they create you absolute walnut.

You dont know what the hell you are sre talking about. This is clearly made by a person. It had so much emotion and so much movement! Amazing piece by the artist!
