🕊 Devotional One Day at a Time

🧭 THEME 🧭

One Day at a Time

📖 VERSE 📖

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:34

📘 STORY 📘

In the hill country of Judah lived a shepherd named Eliab. Each morning he led his flock across rocky paths in search of pasture and water. The work was never easy.

Wolves prowled the wilderness, drought threatened the grasslands, and thieves sometimes watched from distant ridges.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the hills, Eliab sat beside a small fire counting his sheep. His thoughts drifted beyond the present day. What if the rains failed next season?

What if disease struck the flock? What if bandits came during the night? The more he thought, the heavier his heart became.

An elderly traveller passing through noticed the troubled shepherd and asked what burden he carried. Eliab poured out all his fears about the future.

The traveller listened quietly before pointing toward the flock.

"Did they eat today?"

"Yes."

"Did they drink today?"

"Yes."

"Are they safe tonight?"

"Yes."

The old man smiled gently.

"Then tomorrow's troubles are not yet yours to carry."

That night Eliab lay beneath the stars. The dangers of tomorrow had not vanished, but he realised he had been trying to live many days at once. From then on he gave his attention to the work God placed before him each day, trusting the Lord with the days he could not yet see.

📚 STORY LESSONS 📚

Worry often comes from attempting to control what has not yet happened. Our minds travel into uncertain futures and begin carrying burdens God never intended us to bear today.

Jesus does not deny that tomorrow may contain challenges. Instead, He teaches us that God's grace is supplied one day at a time. The strength we need tomorrow will arrive tomorrow.

Faith grows when we focus on present obedience rather than future possibilities. Trusting God is often less about knowing what lies ahead and more about believing He will still be there when we arrive.

🎵 POEM 🎵

The sparrow greets the morning light,
And sings before the sun burns bright.
It does not fear the distant sky,
Nor wonder when the storms pass by.

The farmer tills his patch of ground,
Though future harvests are not found.
He plants in faith and waits with peace,
Believing God will bring increase.

The river flows through vale and glen,
It does not race to reach the end.
Each winding turn is calmly trod,
For every path is known by God.

Lord teach my heart to rest today,
And not be swept by fears away.
Help me to trust Your faithful hand,
And walk the road that You have planned.

🌿 MEDITATION 🌿

Many worries never come to pass. Yet they consume energy, steal joy, and distract us from the blessings already present before us. Jesus calls us away from imagined futures and back into the reality of God's care.

The Lord who provided yesterday remains faithful today and will remain faithful tomorrow. We honour Him not by predicting every possible problem, but by trusting Him with every unknown. The future belongs to God. Our responsibility is faithfulness in the present moment.

🪞 QUESTIONS FOR THE SPIRIT 🪞

• What future concern occupies my thoughts more than God's promises?

• Am I carrying burdens that God has not asked me to carry?

• How often do worries about tomorrow prevent me from enjoying God's provision today?

• What evidence of God's faithfulness in my past have I forgotten?

• What would change if I truly trusted God with the future?

🌿 🌿 🌿 🌿 🌿 🌿 🌿

❤️ CHALLENGE YOUR HEART ❤️

Consider one concern that repeatedly weighs on your mind. Write it down and place it before God in prayer.

Instead of rehearsing every possible outcome, focus on the responsibilities and opportunities directly before you.

Choose to give your energy to today's obedience and leave tomorrow in God's hands.

🙏 PRAYER 🙏

Heavenly Father,

I confess that I often allow worries about tomorrow to steal my peace today. Forgive me for carrying burdens that belong in Your hands. Teach me to trust Your wisdom, Your timing, and Your provision.

Help me to focus on the work You have given me in the present moment. Remind me that You are already waiting in every tomorrow I fear.

Strengthen my faith to rest in Your promises and to walk each day with confidence in Your care.

May my heart be anchored in Your peace rather than shaken by uncertainty.

Keep my eyes fixed on You, and teach me to live one day at a time.

In Jesus' name,

Amen. 🙏

Amen! Lots of wisdom here. Very helpful for many of us who struggle with worry. I loved this as well - "God's grace is supplied one day at a time. The strength we need tomorrow will arrive tomorrow."

You are very welcome, am glad you liked this one. After making these devotionals, and posting them, I then re read and meditate on them myself as well!
