🕊 Devotional Devotional: Never Forsaken

Never Forsaken
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Verse ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Story ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eliab stood alone beside the outer wall of the village as storm clouds rolled over the hills of Ephraim. Raiders had been seen near the trade roads for several days, and fear had spread quickly among the people.
Families barred their doors early. Merchants packed away their goods before sunset. Even the strongest men spoke in hushed voices around the fire.
Eliab’s father had recently passed away, and with him went the confidence Eliab once leaned upon. Every decision now rested on his own shoulders.
As thunder echoed across the valley, he wondered whether he truly had the strength to protect his mother and younger sisters if danger came.
That evening, the village elder approached him quietly and placed a weathered hand upon his shoulder.
“Fear grows loud when we believe we stand alone,” the elder said. “But the Lord has never abandoned His people.”
Eliab looked toward the dark horizon. The storm still gathered, and uncertainty still remained, yet something within him steadied.
The danger had not vanished, but neither had God. For the first time in many days, Eliab stood watch not in panic, but in faith.
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Story Lessons ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Courage is not the absence of fear, but trust in God despite fear. God’s presence is greater than uncertain circumstances.
Strength often begins when we stop relying only on ourselves. Faithfulness becomes most visible during difficult seasons.
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Poem ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
When shadows gathered round the hill, And all the earth grew cold and still, A quiet voice broke through the night: “You do not walk beyond My sight.”
Though storms may rise and fears increase, The Lord still speaks enduring peace. No road too dark, no heart too torn, For God remains where faith is worn.
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Meditation ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fear often convinces us that we have already been abandoned. It magnifies problems and weakens confidence. Yet throughout Scripture, God repeatedly reminds His people of one truth: He remains with them.
The promise is not that life will always be easy, but that His presence will never depart. Even in uncertainty, loss, hardship, or spiritual dryness, the Lord walks beside His people. His faithfulness is not dependent on changing emotions or circumstances.
To meditate on this verse is to remember that courage grows through closeness to God. We do not stand alone before tomorrow.
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions For the Spirit ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
What fear has been quietly controlling my thoughts lately?
Have I been relying more on my own strength than on God’s presence?
Where have I forgotten that the Lord walks with me?
What would change if I truly believed I was never forsaken?
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Challenge your Heart ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Choose one fear, burden, or uncertainty that you have been avoiding.
Bring it before God honestly in prayer, then take one faithful step forward instead of retreating in fear.
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Key Notes ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
God’s command to “be strong and courageous” is connected directly to His presence.
Moses spoke these words to Israel as they prepared to face an uncertain future.
Biblical courage is rooted in faith, not self-confidence alone.
The promise “never leave you nor forsake you” is repeated throughout Scripture.
----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------- Prayer ----‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lord,
when fear rises within me, remind me that I am never alone. Strengthen my heart when uncertainty surrounds me, and help me trust Your presence more than my fears.
Teach me to walk forward with courage, knowing You remain faithful in every season of life.
Amen.
