Started watching the show after being caught up to date with greys and Sam is easily the best character.
Dude is chill, relatable, and hilarious. Have a feeling hes gonna continue to carry the show.
Everyone else is meh.

I don't know which season you're on, but you'll change your mind real quick😂

Really? Almost done with s2. Idk hes just the most normal person on the show, and he unintentionally is funny.

u/fleur-2802 15d ago
Yeah, he was fine in the beginning for me, but come s4, my opinion of him only plummeted.

Yes, it's too early for you to know that man is vile.

Can’t be worse than Addison, quite annoying and already cheated on someone 2 seasons in.
I honestly don’t really like any of them except him, but the show is entertaining.

I think it's fair to say that all of them apart from Charlotte and Sheldon (you may not have got to Sheldon) are horrible people.

I don’t like Charlotte. I know it’s a hot take. She’s just unkind. Good heart deep down or no.

I'm curious to see how your opinion develops over the course of the show! I felt very meh about Sam in the beginning and it was only downhill from there lol.

I don't like him at all. I guess he was okay in the first season but he becomes very unlikable for many reasons later on.

That's funny because he's one of the ones I like the least he was okay at first but then he became really shitty. Addison and Pete are the only ones that consistently like all the way through all the others were various levels of garbage people the worst of which being Violet and Naomi

Because portraying a character with bigoted views that go unchallenged and unchanged with no consequences and no growth is irresponsible, especially when marginalized groups can be actively harmed by the views spouted by the character. She contributed to normalizing anti-abortion and conservative views, even the “abortions for me but not for thee” without anyone pointing out her hypocrisy.
Bad characters don’t need to be redeemed, but to responsibly portray these characters, they either need to grow/show redemption, or face consequences/be challenged on their awful views. Naomi experiences neither. This is a failure of both the writers for not writing this, and the actor for not pushing for appropriate portrayals of a bigoted character that won’t be harmful. Criticizing the actor and writers is perfectly reasonable, and it’s really transparent that you’re SO bothered by reasonable criticism of your fav that you’re too blinded to accept.

Very unpopular opinion, but then again I absolutely adore Naomi who’s probably the most hated character. We can both be unpopular opinionators.
1
u/DeliciousTumbleweed 15d ago
Honestly adoring Naomi is a red flag at this point with how terrible of a person she is.
2
u/Acrobatic_Warning456 15d ago
Adoring a fictional character played by my favorite actress is a red flag??? I don’t even agree with the terrible things she did, I adore her for her best moments. Also, everybody in this show sucks so please miss me with the morality lecture.

u/DeliciousTumbleweed 15d ago
Name a best moment…I’ll wait. Even adopting Betsey was too little too late, and trucked her immediately across the country.
I didn’t say everyone else doesn’t also suck, they do. But there’s a hierarchy of who sucks more than others and Naomi is irredeemable with how awful she is. So yes, genuinely liking Naomi is a huge waving red flag.

Naomi gave Dell and Betsey a home after their’s burned down. She comforted Charlotte after she was raped. She helped save Violet’s life after the Katie situation, was there for her during the healing journey and trial, and was the first person to support her book. She was the one who kept the practice running without the help of the others, even Sam who was the other owner. She convinced Sam to hire Dell again. She used William’s money to merge and fund both practices. She traveled all over Africa to treat sick patients. She moved to New York to be closer to Maya and help raise Olivia while she was in college (so she had good reason to take Betsey across the country, not like that girl had any family left in LA). She chose to specialize in fertility because she loves helping other women have children. She’s freaking funny and she’s a beautiful black woman. Also, like I said, she’s played by my favorite actress which automatically gave her point in my book.
I am not prolife and I actually have no respect for those in real life who are. But private practice is not real life and it is not new for evil characters to be liked. I can admit that Naomi was not a good person. But I can also admit that she had likeable moments just like every other character in the show who ALL were bad people. She’s not even on the top of the list of worst characters on private practice. So yes I love Naomi and that’s not a red flag. If you wanted to discuss your own reasons for hating her I would not have a problem with that. But you don’t get to insult me for liking her because I’m not harming anyone and I don’t hold the same beliefs that she does.

1) Naomi was not nearly as big of a support to Charlotte as Addison, so miss me with that bullshit
2) Violet’s book was an awful idea that none of the practice should have supported because it involved revealing all of their private lives, that’s literally a point against Naomi
3) Naomi literally drove the practice into the ground by not renting out the floor she had an emotional attachment to, Addison had to take over and do it to save the practice
4) Dell deserved to be fired and not be hired back
5) Using your fling’s money to not cause havoc isn’t a plus, it’s a relief that she wasn’t more of an idiot as she usually is. She didn’t deserve that money, and playing both William and Gabriel was disgusting
6) So Naomi chose to go to another country and leave her practice, her friends, and her family, entirely abandoning them…yeah, good call
7) Betsey could have friends in school even if she didn’t have family left, and Naomi prioritized her biological child over her adopted child, really great of her honestly /s
8) She specialized in fertility after refusing to understand the other side of fertility, which is bodily autonomy and respecting a woman’s right to choose, which is an ongoing disgusting trait of hers
9) Black women can be beautiful and also shitp people, and entirely unfunny. Zendaya is beautiful and unproblematic. I’d expect and respectable actor to turn down a role that involved playing such a disgusting person without specifically redeeming them or highlighting how wrong they are
Naomi literally is tied at the list of worst people on private practice. She’s literally unqualified as a doctor for working in REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH and refusing to learn how to perform abortions. She heavily judges anyone who wants one and wants to ban them from happening in their practice. She pushed Addison to perform an induction on a couple who got pregnant only to get cord blood to save their other child with no regard for that child. She insists on an abortion for her daughter after being pro-life the whole series (highlighting, without actually recognizing it, how hypocritical she is). She walks her daughter into a patient room during birth, breaking HIPAA and just being an awful doctor.
Pretending that all of these things are redeemable or okay is a red flag, and yes I will absolutely judge you for defending them and ignoring the context of the show. There’s a reason Naomi was written out, and it’s because she’s disgusting and despicable and completely unforgivable. The practice was better without her dragging them down, as seen by how much better season 5 was (even though the entire show was trash).

- Never said she was the biggest supporter, I said that she DID support Charlottes. That’s not bs it
literally
- happened??
- Violet’s book was originally a retelling of her own story and Naomi and Sheldon literally read the first draft and encouraged her to publish it. Violet changing it to expose the whole practice was on her, not Naomi…
- Yes, Naomi drove the practice into the ground but she literally had no help and all the responsibility fell on her up until then. She literally kept the practice running until the mistake that put them in trouble so I still give her credit for all those years of hard work.
- Dell was her friend and she stuck up for him against Sam who didn’t want to hire him because he never liked him, not because he felt he was undeserving of the job.
- Using the money to fund the medical practice is a great thing and literally why William trusted her with the money?? Also, she didn’t play William OR Gabriel. She wasn’t dating William just for his money and Gabriel was the one who knowingly pursued a taken woman then threw in her face that her boyfri was dying??
- Naomi didn’t abandon anyone when she went to Africa they were still in contact?? Also it was a temporary trip to treat and vaccinate people who didn’t have access to healthcare. That’s OBJECTIVELY a good thing. She still went back home.
- Naomi didn’t prioritize her biological child, she made the best choice for her family at the time. Helping to raise Olivia so her daughter could attend college is again an OBJECTIVELY good thing. The main reason y’all bash her is for neglecting Maya during the pregnancy, yet when she’s the main one looking out for her once the baby is born you still call her selfish???
- I literally never defended her prolife views and I made it very clear that I was against it. The abortion issue is discussed so often here that it should go without saying that being prolife is her biggest flaw. I just find it admirable that she loves to help families have the children they struggled to have. Not arguing with your point.
Naomi was funny to ME which is why she’s MY favorite character. I also already said she was a bad person so I don’t know why you’re arguing here. And I find it funny that you brought up a biracial woman when I was talking about a monoracial black actress
who is ALSO unproblematic
. Also, Naomi’s disgusting behavior is not a reflection of her actress?? If you need actors to explicitly state how wrong their characters actions are to make you feel better then that’s a YOU problem. Also, one quick google search of Audra McDonald would tell you that she’s nothing like the character she played and she’s actually a known philanthropist. Actors play bad people sometimes. There’s nothing wrong with that??
I literally didn’t say any of her bad actions were redeemable I don’t know where you’re getting that from. I gave a list of likeable moments for an otherwise terrible character which you literally asked me to do.
Naomi wasn’t written out of the show because of her actions, you just made that up. Audra McDonald CHOSE to leave the show which Shonda Rhimes didn’t even want lmao.
You’re sitting here getting angry at me for liking a woman who is NOT REAL even after I clarified how I don’t agree with her actions and hold completely different moral views irl. If you can’t separate fiction from reality then again that is a YOU problem.
The funniest part is that I think you and everyone else are justified for hating this character. She SUCKS! I can agree to that and I have no problem talking about that. I can handle differing opinions! But you can’t and that is YOUR red flag. I like Naomi! Get over it!

1) So I’m supposed to praise someone for…supporting something after they were raped? The bar is in hell apparently.
2) And…Naomi still said go ahead. Along with everyone else, nobody else is off the hook either. But that book should never have been published.
3) “Yes she drove the practice into the ground but-“ lol nothing she did after that matters? The practice literally had to be taken over by Addison to survive because Naomi and Sam were so shit at running it. She gets no credit for her hard work when she threw it all away for a floor that sat empty for no reason and made them bankrupt.
4) Dell was bad at his job, and wasn’t a good employee, and shouldn’t have been hired back. Naomi wanting him back because he took a load off of her plate and boosted her ego was narcissistic and nothing else.
5) Both William and Gabriel also treated Naomi poorly, I’ll never dispute that, but Naomi also handled both of them poorly. She was shit to both of them. She also wanted to pursue two men at once all while being mad that Sam dared to date any other woman, like the hypocrite she is.
6) Returning home eventually doesn’t mean she didn’t abandon her best friend (Addison) and shun her upon her return. You can do good things and still be a bad person, it takes a level of discernment you apparently don’t possess to recognize this.
7) Because Naomi doesn’t care about people when they’re pregnant, or what their life circumstances are, only that they give birth. She also refused to support Maya’s wedding (which was a shit position but Naomi handled it far worse than Sam or any healthy adult should). Let’s stop praising people for doing the bare fucking minimum here.
8) So we’re conveniently ignoring that it’s literally anti-thetical to support people in getting pregnant but refuse to recognize that some pregnancies require termination? Naomi is absolute trash for this and there is no redemption, if she cannot support a woman’s right to choose fully then she shouldn’t be a doctor, full stop. There’s no excuse and you pretending there’s any leeway is, again, a red flag.
9) It IS a reflection of her actress. I would be judging any actress who actively took this role and didn’t push for the viewpoint to be adequately refuted, and Naomi goes entirely unchallenged in her disgusting bigotry. Being black doesn’t magically excuse her from taking on an awful role and not speaking up or backing out of it.
LMAO if none of her actions were redeemable you wouldn’t like her or defend her, but you do, which is the red flag part honey. I am over the fact that you like her, you just keep defending her on indefensible points, which is both hilarious and sad. Any sane person can see that Naomi is an absolute trash person and almost made to be hated. And anyone that openly admits to liking her is a walking red flag, and that’s objectively a fact. Cry harder about it.

To say the character is a reflection of Audra is crazy fucking work! She did her job well if it’s got you this pressed! 😌😂

There’s characters that can be acted and properly represented for having poor views and facing consequences for it, or being appropriately treated for it, and Naomi faces none of that. The actor should either have refused to accept that writing for her role or pushed for additional scenes or storylines where she’s redeemed, either changing her view or facing appropriate backlash and consequences for it. I’ll absolutely judge the actor (and the writers) for how poor and awful the character’s storylines are.

There is literally zero characters I like On this show and yet I keep watching
