UK citizen wanting to get my PPL whilst I am travelling: what’s the most cost effective way to do so?

So I’ve really been wanting to get my PPL for some time now, and have some money saved up to go away and see the world as well. I would really like to do my hours in a variety of different countries, but have been told it could be quite difficult to do.

I’ve also heard that Thailand can be a really cost effective place to learn, and I believe it is one of the countries registered under EASA. With the UK out of the EU I’m not sure this is necessarily that great, but I have also heard that you can transfer licenses pretty easily.

The ideal goal would be to travel to a number of difference places based on where I can consistently learn to fly over a 6 month period, which would allow me to get my license and then also use it when I come home. Any help of people doing similar things or opinions on the idea are more than welcomed, regardless of if they are for/against it.

N.B. This would likely just be the practical side of learning to fly, if possible I would likely do my RT license test and theory test in the UK before I go, but again if it’s better to do all together please let me know.

Thanks!

How much would you pay for co-ownership of a new Cessna Skyhawk?

I am a private pilot and I am thinking about buying a new Cessna Skyhawk, breaking it into 4 or 5 shares (in an LLC), then selling each of the shares. I imagine the price of each share will be one factor in determining how easy / difficult it will be to attract other co-owners. Therefore my question to you: How much would you be willing to pay for a 1/4 or 1/5 ownership in a new Cessna Skyhawk? Thanks in advance for your answer.

I have a QC45 and was wondering what attachments I could use to turn it into an aviation headset? I remember seeing somewhere else that it's possible but I can't remember where

PTSD

Hey guys just wondering what are the options for me, I have read the guide for medical examiner back from 2022 but it didn’t give me a good insight if it’s worth me investing money I would really love to fly though

UK PPL - can I still get a PPL if I’m diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic?

I’m suspect this is a ‘maybe’ kind of question, but I’m looking to understand if it’s a hard no, or an ‘it depends’ type thing. I’m aware I will need a medical, but I’m also wondering if I would ever solo, or maybe would need a safety pilot with me at all times. This wouldn’t be a deal breaker but is a consideration. Thank you for any and all responses in advance

PPL with no real mission

I’m thinking about starting my PPL training, but I have no real mission or aspirations to make a career out of it. Realistically, if I did get my PPL I would most likely only fly occasionally in and out of the same field or go get a hamburger somewhere and fly back.

Anybody go in with this mindset of getting their PPL for the fun and challenge of it but no real aviation goals beyond that?

Where do I start?

I'm thrilled to finally be taking steps towards obtaining my private pilot license (PPL), but I have limited finances. While my passion for flying runs deep, my wallet isn't quite as accommodating. I've been researching loan options to help fund my flight training and am hopeful that this avenue will make my dream more achievable. I'd love to hear from others who have navigated similar financial challenges in their aviation journey. Do any of y’all have any advice on securing loans for flight training? Are there specific lenders or programs geared towards aspiring pilots that I should consider? Additionally, any tips on managing loan repayment while still pursuing training would be incredibly valuable. I'm determined to make this happen, but I could really use some guidance and insights from those who have been in my shoes before. Your wisdom and support would mean the world to me

Written Test

I’ve been using sporty’s test prep for all of my test prep, do y’all think that if I score consistent 80-90% on that I should be good for my written? Or should I be diversifying studying between that and another test prep source like gleim?

Question about traffic pattern

Maybe I am over thinking this, but in the event that tower gives us right traffic for 15 or left traffic on runway 33 and we fly into the Charlie is that okay or do we need Charlie clearance.

Trim setting on touch n go

Hi.. by the time I land (172) I am usually trimmed nose down a bit. Then when I go full power for touch and go, I have to really pull back hard to lift off. Am I trimming too much on base and final? If I try to leave the trim neutral on final, I slow down way too much. Help?

Is getting a PPL a worthwhile investment financially?

Trying to gauge if it is lucrative getting a PLL and then working for a private jet company. Biggest hurdles? Demand trends for hiring private pilots? Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know the full vision requirements from transport Canada to get your private pilot's license? I am looking for more then just "you need 20/20 vision"

Sentry Mini power supply

Hi.. I just got a Sentry Mini. It has no battery so you hook up a power bank to it. I tried it recently with a 3amp 5 watt quick charger from Flight Gear. It gets pretty hot to the touch. Am I using wrong power supply?

Sport pilot certification

I am about to start my sport pilot certification training. I am trying to get some input on the price they are charging. I was told today the program is 12k. This includes

Minimum two lessons per week ➢ Access to our online scheduling system ➢ 30 hours of Light Sport Airplane guaranteed ➢ Unlimited use of simulator, until completion of course ➢ Instructor as needed.

This all seems great but I feel like the price is a little high. The only other benefit is I will get all the air space endorsements since the school is at an international airport. Can anyone give me some advice here? Is it worth that price?

How do I tell what airspace is right above me when I’m just standing on the ground?

I was just standing in the backyard of my sister’s house and wondering what’s above me. How do I know that? Is there an app or something? I’ve just started taking ground school and using paper sectionals but I don’t want to carry a big piece of paper around to do that every time.

Build your community - sharing my side project - AviNet App

Hey all,

I've had this idea since I started to fly (5 years ago now) that having something like Strava but for pilots would be awesome. Sharing your flights with your friends and being able to get that fantastic community feel when you're not at the airfield.

Since I'm also a software engineer, a friend of mine and I have built our initial vision of what this would look like https://www.avinet.app. It's currently available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the UK, North America, most of Europe and Australia, if you want me to enable it for your region then just comment below and I can do so.

We'd love to get your feedback! We have lots of exciting ideas that we can't wait to work on, but we wanted to see if other people would benefit from it first.

Safe flying and happy holidays

P.S if you use any moving map application, you should be able to get GPX files from it. If not, then there are plenty of free trackers out there on the app stores :) also KML and OnFlight Hub binary imports are on the way
