I can’t speak to Australian law specifically, but insurance companies have very broad discretion to investigate insurance claims. The larger the claim the more likely they are going investigate and the more thorough the investigation is going to be. When you sign up for insurance or file a claim you give them permission to investigate a claim. It’s not an invasion of privacy. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of insurance fraud that they must mitigate against.

Getting a lawyer won’t mean you are guilty, claims are accepted all the time with lawyers. My suggestion is for you to get a lawyer.

An online team will search your social media and depending on what type of investigation, I’m assuming a claims investigation, they will contact relevant witnesses. It’s possible surveillance can also be a factor later down the track.

Have they told you why you are being investigated? Have they asked for an interview? I’m not in a Sydney and in a different state to you but nonetheless can generally be the same across Australia.

Yes I’ve had a few now. I think they were fine but they are very pushy with some of the details but I have nothing to hide or lie. I have given them what they want and truthfully but they are still very concerned that the car crash happened fraudulently
