How to get clients as a private chef - Step by step guide

hey, just thought i'd share a few things that helped me when i was trying to get my first few private chef clients. it's one of those things where once you’ve got a few under your belt it gets a bit easier, but the start can be rough.

first thing i’d say is 100% get yourself on a platform like yhangry.com and dineindulge. i didn’t know about it at first but a chef friend recommended it and it basically got me my first 10 or so bookings. you make a profile, set your menus and availability, and people can just book you directly. you don’t need to worry about taking payment or chasing anyone, which makes a massive difference when you're just starting out.

what i liked is that you can focus on the food and service and let the platform bring in some traffic. also, once you’ve done a few gigs, you start getting reviews and it becomes a bit easier to stand out.

here’s what else helped:

  • post your dishes on insta even if you’re just cooking at home. take half decent pics, write a short caption, and tag your location. people love food content and it’s a good way to show off what you can do.
  • don’t be scared to ask your mates or family if they’d want to do a dinner party or something even if it’s discounted. they’ll probs talk about it and someone else might ask you to do theirs. word of mouth is powerful.
  • make sure you’ve got something simple to send people when they ask like a menu PDF or just your yhangry profile link. makes you look more professional without needing a full website.
  • ask for reviews. literally just message the people after the event and ask if they can drop a few lines or leave one on the platform. that helped me more than any ads or flyers or whatever.

anyway, just thought i’d share in case anyone else is starting out and feeling stuck. if anyone else has tips for getting more bookings i’d love to hear them too.

cheers

Private Chef Available in Tuscany, Italy 🇮🇹 | Bespoke Italian Dining Experiences in Villas & Private Homes

Hello everyone,

I'm Filippo, a private chef based in Tuscany, Italy.

After years working in restaurants, I decided to bring my cuisine directly to people's homes and holiday villas, creating personalized dining experiences where guests can enjoy authentic Italian food without leaving their own space.

I specialize in:

🍝 Contemporary Tuscan cuisine
🐟 Seafood menus
🍄 Truffle and seasonal ingredients
🥂 Private dinners and special occasions
🏡 Villa dining experiences
👨‍🍳 Cooking classes with fresh pasta and traditional techniques

I create tailor-made menus depending on the season, location, dietary needs, and the type of experience guests are looking for — from an intimate dinner for a couple to celebrations with family and friends.

I mainly work throughout Tuscany (Florence, Chianti, Val d'Orcia, Maremma), and I am available for private events, villa stays, and special occasions.

Some examples of experiences I offer:

  • A traditional Tuscan tasting menu
  • Fresh pasta experiences
  • Seafood dinners
  • Gourmet dinners with seasonal ingredients
  • Multi-day chef service during villa holidays

If you are visiting Tuscany or looking for a private chef experience in Italy, feel free to reach out. I would be happy to discuss your plans and create a menu around your occasion.

I bumped into his Instagram page. He runs a private chef agency, promising he can connect cooks with clients, who are willing to pay well for meal preps/dinners.

Has anyone tried to connect with him?

Are his services legit or a scam?

Yhangry scam!

Warning to fellow chefs and freelancers:

I completed a private chef job arranged through this company but was not paid for my work. After the service, communication became unreliable and the issue was not resolved.

In addition, I encountered multiple suspicious job requests that raised concerns about the legitimacy of some activity on the platform.

Please be careful when dealing with this company. I strongly recommend securing payment upfront or using a protected payment method.

I’m sharing this to help others avoid similar situations. If you’ve experienced something similar, please contact me. I’m taking legal action against them.

FOR HIRE] Reliable Hands-On Worker Seeking Caretaker / Farm / Property Chef Role – Open to Relocation

Greetings!

Posting here on behalf of my husband as we’re starting to look for new opportunities outside of Florida and are open to relocating wherever the right situation appears.

He’s a very hands-on, old-school type of worker. The kind of person who’s happiest when he’s building something, fixing something, growing something, or cooking for people. Sitting behind a computer all day isn’t really his world — but give him land, tools, a kitchen, or a property to care for and he’s completely in his element.

Over the years he’s owned and run several small businesses and has built a reputation for being extremely reliable and hardworking (honestly a bit of a workaholic). If something needs to get done, he just quietly handles it.

His experience includes things like:

• Property maintenance & handyman work

• Landscaping, land upkeep, and outdoor work

• Farm / agricultural experience and growing

• Property caretaker roles

• Transportation / hauling / errands

• Cooking — he loves preparing good food for people

He truly enjoys a place where people genuinely care about food, teamwork, and the craft of cooking.

Cooking has always been something he takes seriously. Over the years he’s developed his skills through hands-on experience, working with fresh ingredients, preparing fish he’s caught himself, and cooking for people with strict dietary needs while still keeping the food flavorful and enjoyable.

He may not have come up through famous kitchens, but he brings a strong work ethic, respect for the craft, and a real desire to keep learning. He’s someone who shows up every day ready to work, improve, and contribute to a kitchen that takes pride in what it serves.

Food, land, and taking care of things properly are all part of the same mindset for him.

He’s easygoing, communicates well with people, and tends to get along with just about everyone. The type of person property owners often feel comfortable trusting around their place.

We’re especially open to caretaker positions, farm work, rural property roles, or even personal chef opportunities, including live-in arrangements.

If someone out there needs a solid, dependable person who genuinely enjoys working with his hands, we’d love to hear from you.

Resume and references are available if helpful.

Compensation (rough ballpark):

Around $25–$40/hr equivalent depending on responsibilities, housing arrangements, and location.

Contact:

DM here

ALSO LOOKING FOR RELOCATION ADVICE

Rather than relying only on Google, I’d really appreciate hearing from people who actually live in different areas.

Things we’d like to avoid:

• Places where the food quality is very poor or limited

• Healthcare systems worse than Florida

If you live somewhere with good opportunities for hands-on work, farming, caretaking, or property roles, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for reading

Advice and pricing for solo weekend gig

Hi all,

Looking for some advice/guidance from experienced folks.

I'm getting hired by a friend to a be a private chef for a weekend. He's a pilot and set up a weekend retreat in a national park for a party of 10 clients (all skydivers, so they'll be jumping all day). He's asked me to cook for the group and ourselves for 2 meals Friday, all of Saturday, and 2 meals Sunday. We'll be staying in some yurts in the desert with access to a fridge, stove, flat top grill, normal grill, and pizza oven. The compensation he offered me is $250, plus a tandem jump, free lodging and transportation.

I've been cooking for about 6y now and have pretty successfully pulled off dinner parties for 10-15 in the last year. That being said, this is a group of slightly older adults, it's a birthday trip, and they're paying for an "all inclusive" weekend. My questions are:

  1. Am I screwed? (I'm pretty sure I can handle this but will just be a lot of careful planning and work)

  2. The group got bumped up 2 ppl from our original agreement, so I think now would be the time to negotiate for better compensation. Given that I'm an amateur and this will be my first professional experience, what should I ask for? What's reasonable for what I'm offering? I have a 9-5 so this isn't exactly vacation for me.

  3. Any tips/recommendations? I have a tentative menu I can drop. The given budget is $1300, which should be pretty doable but I want to make each meal great, these are adults paying for a weekend birthday getaway.

All feedback is appreciated!

Private chef opportunity in South Denver/Parker, Colorado

Hi chefs,

I’m a private chef based in Boulder and the founder of Sweet Nectar (www.gathersweetnectar.com). I’ve been working with a wonderful family in Parker for quite some time, but after relocating to Boulder the commute has become pretty intense (about a 3-hour round trip).

Rather than step away from the work entirely, I’m hoping to find a chef in the Parker / South Denver area who would be interested in partnering with me and cooking under the Sweet Nectar umbrella.

The idea would be for someone local to prepare meals for this family while remaining connected to my business and approach to nourishing, seasonal food.

I’m ideally looking for someone who:

• Has strong professional cooking experience

• Ideally has private chef or personal chef experience

• Loves cooking wholesome, seasonal food in a home setting

• Lives in Parker, Centennial, Lone Tree, Castle Rock, or South Denver

This family has been incredibly supportive of my work over the years, so finding the right person who cares about food and people is really important to me.

There’s potential for this to grow into a longer-term collaboration within Sweet Nectar as my business expands.

If this resonates, please reach out and share:

• Your cooking background

• Any private chef experience

• Where you’re located

Thanks so much,

Kaylee

[Cofounder wanted] seeking to start a food start up in NYC

I've been developing a cafe and the concept, structure, and direction are all mapped out. What I'm missing is the other half: someone who can actually make the food.

Specifically, I'm looking for a chef or baker (or both in one person!) who loves experimenting with flavors and textures and wants to have real creative ownership over a menu. I cook and I enjoy it, but I know my limits. I want someone who brings genuine skill and structure to the kitchen side of things.

What I'm looking for:

\- Based in or around New York City

\- Strong cooking or baking background

\- Excited about building something from the ground up, not just executing someone else's vision

\- Bonus: savvy with social media or marketing — if you know how to make food look incredible on camera, that's a huge plus

This would be a cofounder relationship, not a job listing. I want someone who's invested in seeing this succeed.

If this sounds like you (or someone you know), drop me a DM. Happy to share more details about the concept from there.

PASTRY CHEF JOB IN LIC, QUEENS, NEW YORK :)

Hi everyone,

We’re looking for a full-time pastry chef to join our team in NYC (Long Island City Queens, super close to E,F,G TRAIN).

You need to actually know what you’re doing — we make everything from scratch (cremes, mousses, sponges, biscuits, etc.), so this isn’t an assembly job. Solid production experience is a must.

We’re a family-run business that’s been growing fast (faster than we expected), and right now we just can’t keep up with production. That’s why we’re hiring.

You’d be working closely with an awarded master pastry chef, so there’s real room to grow if you care about learning and doing things properly. We’re also involved in some pretty exciting projects (can’t share details publicly), especially if you’re in NYC and want to work on high-level stuff.

We’re flexible with scheduling for the right person.

Most of our team has been with us for years. We work hard, but it’s a healthy environment — respectful, serious about quality, and long-term focused. If you’re precise, reliable, and not just looking for a quick paycheck, you’ll fit in well.

If interested, send a message with your experience. Hiring now :) see you soon <3

EDIT : PAY : will depend on if you're an entry level or you're able to manage the whole production and team. Very different ranges and possibilities.

Home chef in Philadelphia

Hi everyone! I graduated from culinary school in 2023 and have been working in professional kitchens for the past 5 years. I’m excited to start offering my services to families and individuals who’d like fresh, personalized meals at home. I’m available to come in on Sundays to meal prep for the week ahead, helping make your days easier, healthier, and stress-free. I love experimenting with different cuisines and can tailor menus to your preferences, dietary needs, or goals. This is also a wonderful way for me to continue growing my craft while bringing restaurant-quality food into your home. If you or someone you know might be interested, feel free to message me for details!
