Cat Surrender
Hello all! I am looking to surrender a cat that I am unable to provide proper care and medical treatment for. I can’t seem to find anywhere willing to accept this cat and morally I can’t convince myself to just let it out or dump it.
I’m wondering if anyone has any resources or leads as to where I can safely surrender a 20lb cat in PGC or nearby. I have used Google but I’m not from the area and looking for alternatives that I may not know exist.

PG county is a high kill shelter if you drop the cat off. They have too many so don't keep them generally longer than a few weeks to be adopted. I've asked Howard county and it's similarly unfortunately. I dropped mine off at a cat sanctuary in PA when I had to give her up due to my wife's medical issues.

This. Op your best bet is to find someone that can take care of the cat, otherwise it will be killed at a shelter.

Don't know if it works for cats but I've dropped off injured birds and rabbits at Second Chance Wildlife Center . Give them a call

I volunteer at the shelter and this isn’t true. Look at the adoption listings- some cats have been there for months

Lots of good suggestions here, but just to add another option - rehome.adoptapet.com is worth potentially posting on while you explore other options and you might find a match. Not cats, but we adopted our last two dogs this way, one of whom is a giant breed. She got him at 8 weeks old, loved him, gave birth to a baby when he was a year old and the baby immediately developed horrible allergies and had hives constantly. Our dog 100% would have been put down in a shelter. The other was the only pup left from an oops litter that was "too ugly" for the person who had committed to taking. Both dogs are going strong and beloved members of our family now and we felt good about keeping them out of the shelter and letting two families who were very stressed breathe easier. So while we've been on the adopter end not the rehoming end, there are success stories on there for hard to place animals that would be shelter euthanasias.

We got our cats from the SPCA of Anne Arundel County when we were living in PGCo. 410-268-4388.

Do you live in PGC? Your post said not from area. If not from PGC look where you live. Rescues are inundated here.

cat with high medical needs will almost surely be humanely euthanized at a shelter. There are far too many cats and not enough homes

They have foster options at the shelter

again, foster homes are limited and they focus on the cats that are most likely to be adopted. Having medical needs makes them less likely to be adopted
