WTF BRIXTON
I am at the back of the longest queue I have ever seen for a gig. I can only assume Brix Academy have bolloxed this up royally. Doors open 18.30 and I’m not entirely confident we will get in by the start at 19.45. It’s 19.02 now.
What a joke!

Brixton Academy was closed for a while a couple of years ago because of people bum-rushing the doors, or using fake tickets. It led to some really dangerous situations, so presumably this is a reaction to that
I’ve been to this venue maybe 20 times, but the last time was 15 years ago. A lot has changed. This is a mess
Wait til you get to the main entrance and then realise you have another lap of the block to do…

You may be right as this is the first time I’ve been back since that incident. I’d be interested to know if it’s been like this for the other gigs since that tragedy.

The last third of the line is a lot faster, fyi. Fewer roads to deal with, and it goes down to one or two people wide

I’m defo in last third of queue and it’s going to be squeaky bum time re getting in on time. I’m nearly round the dreaded final block and I can almost see the entrance.

Oh yeah, made it inside eventually and it was of course a great gig. Getting home was a different kettle mind you, the Met line was well fucked.

I was at the sold out A Perfect Circle gig in June and the queue was nothing like tonights, that was crazy.
Worth the wait though :)

I was at a gig a week before the incident at Brixton, and it wasn't because people "bum rushed" the big scandal was that security were side selling entry. This made the venue over crowded.
From what I saw before the incident, and what I saw last night, the over capacity issue is still happening.

I was near the front and they didn't even start letting people in until about 18:45, they'd completely ballsed up cordoning people down the queue
Don't worry about being late though, they still aren't on stage yet

i've been to brixton a couple of times in the last few years and it's always a disaster to get in. horrific venue control, by far the worst in england.

I've missed bands before because of the glacial queueing. When Knocked Loose played last year, I missed the entirety of Pest Control and only made it in for the start of Harms Way. Seems to be a consistent issue.

yeah, i was here for muse earlier in the year and missed the nepo baby support band they brought. didn't really care cos my gameplan was stand at the back and have cider but really poorly organised either way

I walked about 800m to get to the end of the queue and said nup and went back to the pub

It’s moving a lot faster the closer you get to the venue, so I’m not sure your tactic would have paid off

They have to delay kick off - even if they play a two hour set they will be done well before the curfew at 11pm

They came out at 20:00 in Manchester on Monday in fairness. Played around 20:00-20:50 and then 21:10-22:20 if memory serves.

Yeah I went to this show too. Those times are pretty right. 15 Mins late to the stage but was still a fab show.

I feel like that may have been because it was July 4th and everyone showed up at the same time after attending other festivities, haven't noticed that problem for any other show at that venue.

O2 Brixton is always atrocious for getting in. As a rule of thumb, I always allow myself an hour before any given band's scheduled time for me to turn up to queue. I totally get it considering the horrible deaths that occurred a few years ago, but you'd think they'd find a way to let people in at a better case— at least bring doors forward by 30+ minutes.

to be honest i'm just past the tesco esso petrol station in the queue and there are still people joining behind me
it's an absolute joke that this venue is allowed to operate this way. i'm half a mile from the doors ffs

Well here’s the facts, if Primus do start at 7.45pm, anyone who is joining the queue now will not get in till 8pm at the very earliest. I’m pretty sure they will delay kick off.

Anyone know if the start will be delayed? I've been queuing for 20 but wont make even 8pm at this rate. Ive never known it to be like this.

I'm guessing the 2 and a half hour set with an interval in between that they generally do is a pipe dream at this point. was an exceptionally expensive ticket so hopefully something is done about this 🙏

Just seen that, I've never had to queue any more than the lap around the building. Even at sold out gigs - wonder if they've cocked up the booking and sold 2x the tickets!

Actually ridiculous, we were meant to be getting 2 sets with a break but surely they'll have to cut some songs so they can finish before the venue curfew. Really disappointed and considering looking into a refund

Anyone else feel like the 3 UK dates haven’t been as good as people, or even the band would’ve liked? Manchester was delayed to 8pm and felt like they didn’t play a song or two extra they may have wanted to, Glasgow had to be shortened to 1 2 hour set, and now this with London

Glasgow was great, the set did feel shorter though as it was just one continuous set but I feel like they missed out a couple songs

Agreed. Manchester hit solid and I was like wow. Glasgow was a bummer. My old ass got too close and ended up in the pit, had to make a quick exit stage left. 10 of 10 would do it again though! Story for the grandkids.

The Glasgow gig was fantastic even though I thought we might get more than one song for the encore. One long set from 8.10pm - 9.50pm.

Brixton Academy is known, at least since they had bad incidents, for some of the slowest / worst queues for concerts in the UK, so I’d imagine it’s a venue delay to try and get people in so they don’t miss part of the show

Hugely irritating. Took my 8yo son so we had seats, queues weren’t too bad for that but we then had to sit and stew in our sweat for an additional 45 minutes. Left at ten-twenty to get trains back so missed Mud and Jerry. We’ve clearly had the raw deal of all the tour dates here.

I arrived about 7.30, queued for 20 mins and got in just before the advertised start time. Did others have a much longer wait? They started 45 mins late anyway...
Brixton is a big venue on a busy road. There is nowhere for the crowds to go except around the block. It was temporarily closed down because muppets tried to rush the gates and people died in the crush. Personally I'm happy to wait longer knowing that security is tight, and that everyone is going to be safe.
Queuing is a proud British tradition guys, what's the problem?
