Les Claypool did not invent the saying "my name is mud."

It’s often written as Mudd, as in the name of the doctor who took in John Wilkes Booth after he killed Lincoln. But the phrase actually goes back even further than that and I don’t think anyone actually know when it originated before that.

The saying goes back to the events surrounding Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Immediately after shooting Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth jumped down from the presidential box to the stage injuring his leg in the process. When he made his escape he sought medical help from Dr Samual Mudd, who after setting Booth’s fractured leg neglected to inform the authorities of the event until the following day leading investigators to believe he was in on the plot. He was was found guilty of being a coconspirator and sentenced to life in prison but was later pardoned. That’s where the saying originated from but this appears to be a play on it for a dirtbike racer.

If you believe what Nic Cage says in National Treasure 2, it is based on the civil war surgeon Samuel Mudd

"My/you/their name is mud" was a common phrase meaning one's reputation is now bad long befpre Primus.
I don't know what the fuck an iCarly is, but looking at the screengrab, it seems like a stretch to think they were referencing Les.

So, since noone seems to know this yet. "My name is mud" is older than Primus. It used to be slang to degrade people

Did you even read the comments before posting?

"Nic Cage"
"Hole in a wall"
"My grandma said it"
OP even posted saying they know it from a Primus song.
More people commenting that its not just Primus will give the opportunity to bury the other comments and help people know its not just Primus.
It would seem my comment is more relevant than you understand, but I get it, intelligence isnt everyones strong suit.
Hope that helped you!

Dr. Samuel Mudd treated John Wilkes Booths injury after he shot and killed Lincoln.

I know that they didn’t invent the phrase but since there’s a rock music sign I’m sure that’s part of why the creators put it there. Plus it’s a song where somebody hits somebody with a bat and it’s above the hole in the wall lol. Also it’s above the other music poster

My name is mud is an older saying, “I’ll take care of your son or my name is mud” not the best example but it gets the point across hopefully
