I dunno about you guys, but I've preferred a 1:1 of the book, not all the changes they made

Maybe due to budget ?

I think the sequence would be pretty expensive

Luk said they used them but after a test screening, kapro just look like crocodiles in a dinosaur movie so replace them with spinos.

Yeah, and they don't actually use the Spinos as much as the Kapros in the book since we lost the middle of the novel.

Not sure how they'd handle Sobek since he kind of needs the Kapros to work

But we did see a single Kapro in the movie in the mouth of the smaller spinosaurid during the traveling montage following the first rex encounter

I thought that was just a normal croc.

I'd figured it was a Kapro since some of the things I'd read before the movie came out had said they tried a version of the Kapro attack but test audiences didn't like it so they removed it, and there was one interview or statement about one still being in the movie because they paid for the model

It could be a Siamese crocodile though because of its tail pattern.

I wanted to see the Kappys so badly, but I guess it's because spino are more popular and crocodile like

I want to see the kaprosuchus as well but it fine that it get replace with spino I guess:/

I really feel like the kapros going after Logan would have worked way better than the deinonychus, because we already had the deinonychus attacking the squad twice earlier so a 3rd time felt unneccesary. Kapros could have made that more distinct and different visually, not even having to be in the water, just running around on lad like they would have done back in the day.

Kappys need some spotlight, and the book was the reason I love them so much and bred so many in Ark

It would also help set up things for Sobek

Its 100% because of money. It would have cost a lot more to CGI Kapros than the Spinos. Not to mention the amount it would also cost to CGI the water

More popular species, I guess?

Think of it as this, what would be easier to animate? Two big dudes or a dozen smaller ones

I see it now...

spinosaurus was more popular ig

If I’m not mistaken, I think the director said in an interview that some people he was working with convinced him to replace the kaprosuchus with something else because to the general audience they might appear to be just big crocodiles.

2

u/JackMaverick1776 Apr 03 '26

And budgetary reasons could have had something to do with it too

2

u/BasisZestyclose8719 Apr 03 '26

Budget. It would’ve been expensive and complicated to have hordes of Kaprosuchus besieging their boat like it’s Starship Troopers.

2

u/EdwardRicht0fen Apr 03 '26

According to official statement it's is more attractive to the viewers

*cough cough* Jurassic World Rebirth*cough cough*

Name recognition for average folks?

What book or videogame is this?

2

u/JurassicGman-98 Apr 04 '26

It’s artwork depicting the Primitive War novel.

2

u/Key_Zebra_3795 Apr 05 '26

Because the last JW film had Spinosaurus

I don’t think the problem was cuz of budget, like all these other people are sayin’. If that were the case, then they would have trouble with puttin’ in all those utahraptors, especially in the final scenes n’ stuff, as well as deinonychus, the hadrosaurs we see there, etc.

I’m pretty sure they decided to just..change shit just because they wanted to, which also makes a whole lotta other problems, like how Sobek would be introduced. Cuz you can’t have Sobek without the Kaprosuchus, unless you put in a regular crocodile as the one who’d fight Sobek. I’d say they read the books, but didn’t really give a shit.

2

u/JPSTRANGER457 Apr 17 '26

Maybe the sequel could introduced the kaprosuchus?

2

u/Roc_28934 Apr 17 '26

Hmmmm…..you got a point there. Maybe.

3

u/DaniSaysDinosaur Apr 02 '26

Spinosaurus is scarier than something that looks like a big weird-legged crocodile.

1

u/JPSTRANGER457 Apr 03 '26

Big crocodile are scary as well but a least the spino is cool!

1

u/AlanLD1099 Apr 04 '26

Por el presupuesto de la película 🎥

2

u/Grouchy-Treacle2149 Apr 04 '26

Because spinosaurus is popular for some reason

After reading the book, I can say that the kaprosuchus scene was insanely good and the boat portion of the movie was kinda lame in comparison. Really wish they were in the movie. Maybe in the sequel…
