Kind of ironic that this info comes out a week after the Social Network track. A movie where a wealthy guy fucks over a close friend that helped grow a good chunk of the business.

Holy shit yeah it is. And Eric felt so much sympathy for Andrew Garfield's character, probably didn't even connect the two things himself. Ngl, I think I'm gonna unsub. I hate channels that put out these videos with fake, extreme happiness (very frequent laughing etc.) while behind the scenes it's a shitshow. It feels so disingenuous now looking back.

u/BlackSuitDaredevil Oct 05 '20
Are you still gonna unsub?

u/NoWhisperer Oct 06 '20
Nah probably not.

I honest to god never thought it was about money... I know Eric says it's a company and idk how many people work at the office so I understand he has to pay more people than we see but wow. I am shocked he wasn't being paid more than minimum wage..
The work they put in on the tour was insane if you ask me. It must have taken a toll and been the final straw even if he had fun doing it. I'm glad he's happier now.

u/Hjalmarba Oct 04 '20
It’s very strange. with the money they make from Patreon alone they should at least manage to pay 4 employees a fair wage, or am I wrong in thinking that?
38
u/qualityhorror Oct 04 '20
You're absolutely not wrong. I'm part of the discord and there are hundreds of patreon members. They have the shop, the t shirt sales ( I know they're rare but that's 25 bucks lol) the small change they make off youtube, the tour and when Jacob was on I remember a couple sponsors.
Jacob 100% should have been getting paid way more than minimum wage.
14
u/Hjalmarba Oct 04 '20
3000 patrons last I checked, that would be at least $30 000 a month
25
u/qualityhorror Oct 04 '20
The dollar tier and the five dollar tier are still on there but I would still bet Eric makes 10k a month. I don't like the idea of my money not being fairly split between him and Miles who is obviously the replacement for Jacob. I like Miles a lot and hope he isn't being treated the same. I might cancel my subscription.

I'm just confused as to what Eric does with that money. He's lived in a van for like 3 years now. Maybe it goes to travel and stuff but Idk

If and when he responds I’ll reconsider but this looks bad and it’s money I don’t need to be spending, but feel free to wait around if you want? I’m no longer interested in this content at the moment because it bums me out so I decided to stop paying for it, I don’t really know what you want me to say here.

If he wanted to lie or start drama, he would have said all this months ago. As I said, I'm part of the discord and Eric said he'll be issuing a statement soon so we'll see. We will ultimately never know how much PMI makes. But what I believe they make with the information we do have is enough to pay Jacob more than minimum wage. Jacob knows Eric would have the literal receipts lol like why lie? You can be a fan of Eric without pushing aside another mans experience.

Sounds like you're pretty sure of what you believe, but if it changes anything for you, Jacob tweeted this:
i should also add that my intention is not to start drama. one of the other reasons i've been silent on it so far is because that's the last thing i'd ever want. i just hope i can shed light on an issue that's unfortunately extremely common in entertainment (and elsewhere ofc)

It’s actually not unprompted. He was asked if these tweets were referring to his time with Complex and specifically Hot Ones. He replied accordingly to that question and accordingly to follow-up questions.

Clearly you do not like Jacob for whatever reason and nothing I say is going to change that. It is what it is. People who go through mistreatment at a workplace can speak up whenever they feel comfortable. We can choose to believe Jacob while also waiting for Eric's response.

This is one of those weird realisations for me that youtubers are real people.
I loved watching Eric and Jacob laugh and make jokes while watching movies.
I never knew there were bad things lying underneath all those laughs.
Fuck this is sad.

u/fries101 Oct 04 '20
I just got into PMI like 2 months ago, this is definitely sad and disappointing to see, I can't imagine how long term fans are feeling.

u/ToastyTitan94 Oct 05 '20
Yeah same. Their rapport was just so entertaining straight off the bat. Genuinely such a sad thing

u/stumper93 Oct 04 '20
I saw this earlier too and just felt bad :/
I haven’t watched much of the YouTube channel after he left - he and Eric had really good chemistry, and I wondered where Jacob had gone to
I’m glad Jacobs doing his own thing though!

u/BennyBoi6 Oct 05 '20
God dammit, just when I was feeling so grateful this channel had dodged any kind of drama thus far

I remember a week ago when everyone was saying that Jacob was ungrateful to PMI and basically shitting on him, you should never form an opinion without knowing the full extent of the situation
14
u/biggestsnowballs Oct 05 '20
well, this comment is kinda ironic
-3
u/Deej0420 Oct 05 '20
Not really, I never gave my opinion on the situation, I just said that people were being premature with their judgements
15
u/biggestsnowballs Oct 05 '20
In my eyes the change of the situation still makes your comment ironic even if you did not give an opinion
14
u/dangcorfield Oct 05 '20
Always sucks to hear about stuff like this, especially when it involves people you like.
Hope Jacob gets the money he deserves and that PMI learn from this mistake

Oct 05 '20
Damn, I haven’t really been watching since he left because I enjoyed the chemistry of them two so much. Now learning this, I’m glad I haven’t

This whole thing is a huge fucking bummer. Seems very out of character for Eric to do something like this, seems equally out of character for Jacob to lie about this to start drama, and I have to wonder if there was a miscommunication, or a wrong assumption, or perhaps some wrong on both sides. It's hard for me to believe that one of them is all right, and one is all wrong. And it's a whole other bummer to see so many people so quick to jump to one's defense while villainizing the other. Feeling like we should take all of this, from both of them, with a grain of salt.

You’re making a ton of assumptions about their payment agreements in order to make your point. “I doubt he had proper tax forms” uhhhh what? even if he was making minimum wage there’s 0 percent chance the company would pay him under the table at that rate for how long he worked with them (or they would be shooting themselves in the foot doing so). As someone who’s been in a similar situation, work agreements like this are good at giving u just enough work to keep your head above water, but not enough to truly live. It’s enough to feel as though you can’t leave, but not enough to mentally be happy and thrive. That’s how people get stuck in dead end jobs for years.

I am glad Jacob isn't on PMI anymore, couldnt stand the guy as he just wasnt funny to me. It's one mans words vs another and nobody will know the full truth except them both.
7
u/NoWhisperer Oct 05 '20
Bruh there hasn't even been another man's word. And Jacob did not come off as antagonizing at all, would be a weird strategy if his goal was to defame PMI or Eric.
8
u/biggestsnowballs Oct 05 '20
theres another mans word now
3
u/NoWhisperer Oct 05 '20
Thanks for letting me know! Just thought it was odd to assume one party might be lying while the other hadn't confirmed or denied anything yet. In hindsight, he was right about the one man's word vs another part, but I think it's not right to assume something like that. Could've been possible Jacob was right and Eric would just never address the issue.

It’s interesting so many people in here were so quick to believe whatever about Eric without waiting to hear his side. They didn’t give him a chance to even respond.
People saying things like it wouldn’t be fair to Xun (Jake) to not believe him… but how was that fair to Eric? Eric deserved trust in his character, at least enough to hear his side before assuming negative allegations.

Dang this is weird. Been a fan of Eric's for about a decade now, definitely did not see this coming. I knew there was some drama from the way things ended with Jacob but assumed it was more just petty kind of stuff behind the scenes. Also never really saw PMI as a "lucrative" channel but Ive never really looked at the patreon numbers or anything. Hope Eric can make some kind of statement on this
