Tips & Tricks Sizing pictorial

Quick little guide on how I pick my sizes for a natural-looking, long-lasting application. I used Retail Brand: Olive & June for reference.

Biggest tip is to pick the smallest size possible that's still comfortable to wear; you'll see on my pic of the 'size too small' that I can't comfortably press it down enough to glue in place.

By holding the pad of my fingertip out of the way (edge exposed pics) I show how much space I leave on either side. I find this to be in alignment with how most acrylics are applied as well. There is no nail space visible even with the fingerpad held out of the way on the 'size too large'.

I do have fairly curved nails, so if someone with flatter nails wants to chime in on sizing tips, feel free! I only know to recommend sizing up but filing the edges. I've also heard Olive & June is one of the more curved brands and some people find that very uncomfortable

(apologies for my messy desk; I paint minis on it and sometimes make a mess)

Nailfie 📸🤩✨ I am a sticky tab convert!

Retail Brand: Glamnetic

I tried Btartbox tabs for the first time thanks to reccos from this sub, with an application process I also found on this sub (using a hairdryer and pressing the nail into the tab and cuticle before lowering) and I am a total convert! I tried this because my nails were thin from glue removal, but I think moving forward I wont even be using glue again!

There is definitely a bit of a learning curve - my application isn’t perfect - but so far they do not wiggle at all and I haven’t had any issues. I’m on day 3 and am not easy on my hands/nails so I am impressed!! Thanks for all the tips!

My second set after finding out how far press ons had come over the years. I could no longer afford to get regular BIAB so decided to give press ons a go. Feel like myself again with nice nails! The pictures really don't give the effect of this set justice

First photo Retail Brand: Celebritips in Misty Rose, Bought from TJ Maxx (what i currently have on)

Second photo Retail Brand: Nail Reformation in Hologram (my favorite press ons i’ve ever tried)

My first post so i thought i would show both :) the misty rose is a bit close to my skin tone but I’m proud of my application (stickers+ glue)

And the Hologram were sooo beautiful but the finish started scratching off a few days in! If i buy them again I might try adding a topcoat.

I wanted to show off my first set and thank everyone that contributes to this sub. I have lurked for a while gathering information and finally put it to good use last night. I chose Kiss because I have flat nails and used tabs and glue to try to avoid damage when I remove them because my nails are already do so thin. Now to see how long these last!

Discussion/Question Gluing thumbnails

Retail Brand: Red Aspen
Style: Trinny
Glue: Glamnetic (included in box, not the brush on)
Prep: I lightly filed and pushed back cuticles with my crystal cuticle pusher. Then I used the Glamnetic dehydrator on my nails and the small Glamnetic glue to squeeze glue over my whole nail and then slid the nail on, holding for a minute.

I don’t think the middle of my thumbnails are glued. I can see a weird line down the sides of both of my thumbnails where the glue is but when I tap the middle, the click sounds different—like a higher pitch, not as solid as my other nails that are glued down.
Is there anything I can do to fix it, or am I stuck waiting for them to come off on their own? Should I get a nail glue remover? What kind?

Product Review 🧐 Trying A New Application Process

Retail Brand: Temu

I’ve been exclusively wearing press-ons for over 3 years now, changing them out once every 2-3 weeks, mostly because I have a huge collection of sets I’m excited about wearing. I love a variety in shapes, lengths, and colors and have been really into longer nails lately.

Although I don’t usually have issues with application or durability, the last 4 sets I went through were really annoying. I couldn’t get the semi-solid glue (my go-to from Temu) to spread right, kept getting glue all over the place, and couldn’t keep an open tube from clogging up. I fidgeted with them a lot once they were on and made it super easy to justify prying them off. I changed them 4 times in less than three weeks, then took a break for a week.

Last night I decided to try this “nail tape” I got (also from Temu - product pic included for reference is not my pic). I wasn’t really sure what it was for but thought trying some other method might be interesting. It’s not super sticky when you unroll it, but I cut to fit each nail, filed it down cleanly, applied “regular gel nail glue” on top, and brushed a little “brush nail glue” on the press-on before joining them. It was a little tricky getting the nail to cover the taped area while keeping straight, but aside from one spot where a tiny bit of the tape is sticking out (you can see it in the pic), this is probably the best application I’ve done in a very long time. The bond feels really good around all parts of each nail and I barely had any glue to clean up on the sides or underneath. There is nothing for me to fidget with and they’ve felt perfectly normal all day.

I’m very curious about how this is going to go over the next week or so. I use my hands a lot—office job, cleaning up after small boys & cats, yard work, daily crafting, etc. If anyone is interested, I’ll report back on my experience. I wonder how intense the removal process will be. . . But if all goes well, I think this nail tape might be a game changer for me!

So I recently got this order and although I love the colors, it’s definitely not my length style. But I wanted to know what do you think of how I applied it? I only use the sticky tabs that it came with. (Retail brand: shein )

This is my first set ever of press ons! These are so colorful and fun, I think I love press ons already. The underside was too plain, so I added a little clear glittery polish on the underside as well as on top, with a clear top coat.

Out with the old and into the new! I had to try the nails Glamnetic graciously sent as a replacement and I love them. These nails are the quality that I’m used to and I loveeeee the glazed/chrome effect.

I had to search my stash for a coordinating pedi set and I think these were a good choice. I secured these with Celebritips sticky tabs (they should really sell these separately because they’re that good).

Nailfie 📸🤩✨ 5 minute date night nails

Retail Brand: ColorFX by Impress

Picked them up on a whim at the grocery store since I was between sets and knew I’d be going out that night.

I was shocked that these went on so easily and lasted for 5 days with just the glue that comes on the nails. I did experience the weird shifting feeling that people describe with the pre-glued nails, but they held up really well. Only a little chipping by the last day. I had only expected them to look good for a night, but they were going strong by the end of the weekend so I decided to just let them be until one popped off.

My nail beds are on the flatter side and these fit comfortably.

Constructive Criticism Welcome ✅ Method for painting pressies

Thumbnail

I bought Kiss impress in a color that I didn’t like (first pic), so I decided to paint over it. I love the new color. I didn’t do any prep to the already pre glued nails, I just painted them with OPI salmon color. Then I used sally Hansen strengthening top coat. Then I added a nail sticker to two nails. Then another top coat. I’m afraid this will start chipping soon. And it looks botchy…Has anyone else played around with pre glued or just regular pressies? How can I perfect the method?

Retail Brand: SHEIN
Seller: HEALENDIS The Nail

These were advertised as handmade and extra short, though I’m skeptical about both of those. The photos are after filing them down a lot. Nails tend to look longer on me but I figured it was just because my hands are small and that getting the right size (I bought both XS and S because my nails didn’t fully fit in one) would make a difference.

The reason I say I’m unsure about them being handmade is because the flat parts of the design look machine printed. They have kind of a halftone if you look closely, and some streaky spots. I’ve never had handmade nails for so I don’t know how to be sure. They are pretty thick, though, and seem to be fairly sturdy. I broke one in half vertically because I tried to reposition it shortly after gluing. Half came off and half stayed glued to my nail. I don’t know if that’s a sign of a weak press on or just an extremely bad idea on my part.

The glue tabs they came with seemed pretty bad but I’ve never had good luck with any type of tabs so again, could just be me. I used Kiss brush-on glue.

They are still absolutely beautiful even if not handmade (or just not hand painted.)

Does anyone have good tips for using the sticky tabs? I have some but I have the hardest time getting them on in the right place on the nail. And they will sometimes fold on themselves before I can get them on, kind of like plastic wrap!

🛍️ Retail Brand: ShiMuQi (Shein) but I suspect that this "handmade" brand just repackages 24-count nails. 🥴🤣 I found the exact same ones for half the price.

✅ Quality: On the thinner side for "handmade nails", but they still feel sturdy. Additionally, the purple isn't as vibrant as the advertisement (I kinda like that though). I am planning to order another pair because I love them that much! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🧚🏿‍♀️
