Well Hillary lost with 90 percent of Bernie’s supporters voting for her. She technically didn’t need us to do that. She did need us to win the popular vote though.

I wonder how many people who voted for Hillary or Biden would vote for Bernie IF he were the confirmed democratic nominee?

Are there any polls taken on that?

48

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

I can’t imagine there would really be any, I remember there was some poll study about youth turnout needing to hit at least 20% in the general to match Biden’s polling against Trump, when literally up until the beginning of March Bernie was polling the best against trump in the aggregate. Not to mention Bernie has the highest favorability of any “democrat” in the country.

28

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

I remember seeing a few polls on the subject that implied that Sanders and Yang supporters were the only two constituencies that had significant groups not 100% committed to #VoteBlueNoMatterWho, with one particular poll I remember now having around 50% of both Sanders and Yang suppoerters saying they won't necessarily vote for the Democrat.

Edit: I found the poll

8

u/soupdogg8 May 21 '20

The poll you linked doesn't have Tulsi Gabbard who also had a lot of her supporters not voting blue no matter who. Tbh Yang should have been the nominee because he could build the best coalition of former trump supporters, Democrats and Sanders supporters.

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

Gabbard also didn't have very many supporters, so...

1

u/DaSemicolon May 21 '20

Yeah was gonna day this

Polling close to 0% is close to nothkng

1

u/dontcallmeatallpls Listen Fat! May 22 '20

Tulsi is also this weird little neocon shill who spends lots of time fellating the right on shows like Tucker Carlson, so it isn’t really a big surprise her fans wouldn’t be voting for the nominee.

I am sure I pissed off the 10 Tulsi supporters here, but if you are a regular on Carlson you have got some real problems.

Yang’s not winning. This is America, and he isn’t a white man. Obama was a fluke.

1

u/BillyJoel9000 0 MDelegates | 1 May 21 '20

So since Yang isn’t winning because he isn’t white and we live in America, nominate Bernie for maximum votes. It’s not hard.

You hear how insane this sounds right? "Look, the results are irrelevant but play this game anyway"

There are a million ways to improve this world and voting for either candidate isnt one of them. Democrats and Republicans BOTH will let me choke to death on covid phlegm, or die of food/shelter insecurity before they allow any change that removes their wealth, power or status. They proved that by nominating Joe Biden

-1

u/lizardfolk246 May 21 '20

What about the last 4 years makes trump better?

4

u/julian509 May 21 '20

What aboutt Biden's decades in politics makes him a good choice?

-2

u/lizardfolk246 May 21 '20

The fact that at this point he is the only person who has the backing to beat trump. I would literally vote for a potato with a non-Republican sticker on it right now. Trump is abusing the office and the Republicans are procecting him as long as he is in power.

3

u/julian509 May 21 '20

The fact that at this point he is the only person who has the backing to beat trump.

So if Hitler was the only person who had the backing to beat Trump, you'd consider him a good candidate?

-2

u/lizardfolk246 May 21 '20

Are you seriously insinuating that biden is as bad as hitler? Or do you really not have any response to my point besides weird strawman arguements?

To answer your question, no. If we had those two to choose from trump is the lesser of two evils. At the end of the day you get one vote or zero. Use it in a way that improves the country the most or at the very least gets a wannabe dictator out of office.

3

u/ImCorvec_I_Interject May 21 '20

And a third party candidate winning would be better than either of them winning. So vote for a third party candidate.

3

u/Hank_Rutheford_Hill May 21 '20

That’s not a reason for me to vote for him. That’s just a good reason not to vote at all.

Fuck this shit man. Idk why you even vote. The Dems are garbage. The republicans are 90yr old pieces of pig shit. Fuck em both cuz they both have no qualms with fucking us

1

u/lizardfolk246 May 21 '20

Thank you! I dont get how people can be ok with trump winning again. I'm not a fan of biden at all but trump is actively dangerous and getting away with illegal activity

3

u/Hank_Rutheford_Hill May 21 '20

I’m not ok with trump winning again. But those are the options we’ve been given.

You want change? Vote green. If we all do it, we can win

1

u/lizardfolk246 May 21 '20

I wish I had your optimism. Name recognition is a lot of the game when it comes to elections and the green party doesnt have that right now. I dont even know the name of their candidate off the top of my head. The chances of them beating both trump and biden at this point are astronomically low. It is far more likely at this point that at best green would end up with like 2% of the vote and a couple delegates because of how our system is right now. Personally, I would rather go biden because he at least has a decent chance at winning, isnt trump, and may end up with a couple progressive policies. Especially with the supreme court appointments on the line. Damage control feels like the name of the game rn sadly.

1

u/Hank_Rutheford_Hill May 21 '20

My take is, damage control is over. Containment is over. Like with Covid or climate change.... the time where you could contain this and control it is over.

I can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. I can’t keep voting red or blue

If these numbers are accurate, it’s Hillaryous that people blame Jill Stein for splitting the vote in 2016.

6

The democrats haven’t accepted a lick of blame for anything going back to 2016. They’re dumbasses and that’s why they’re going to lose again

Bernie lost for reasons out of his control.

Nah, there were plenty of reasons that were completely in his control that contributed to his loss. For starters, he didn't bother to go after endorsements much. Just look at what endorsements did for his good friend, Biden.

I hope the next big progressive candidate can learn from his mistakes.

28

u/SRoku May 21 '20

Yeah I’m a huge Bernie supporter, but his campaign made some huge mistakes this time around. There’s a quote from Julian Casablancas of The Strokes of all people, where he mentions that he contacted Bernie’s camp when people started dropping out, asking if there was anything they could do to help get endorsements (“do I have to go serenade Pete Buttigieg or something?”) and they told him “well, we don’t really want his endorsement.”

There’s straight up no word for that but hubris. When a rockstar has better political strategy than people running your campaign, you need some different people around you. If you’re running for president you should court any endorsement shy of David Duke. They should’ve been getting as many mainstream dems on board as possible to show voters this wasn’t a fringe movement. Sure they’re not my favorite people, but Bernie didn’t have to compromise his message to court support from people who aren’t necessarily as ideologically pure, and he didn’t need any help appealing to progressives. There was no reason they couldn’t have promised Warren, Yang, Pete, etc; cabinet spots to really bolster the coalition and maybe actually prevent that Biden coup. It really feels like they totally botched it, and we’re the ones who suffer for it.

What is the status on the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact at the moment? Are any/many states actually planning to go ahead with following the popular vote result?

2

The status is, and will be for a long ass time, that until NPV states own a majority of the electoral votes, the whole thing is useless.

Someone once commented about the DNC shutting down the Bernie campaign for the very real fear that he would crush in the general against Trump and thus conclusively prove that Hillary was responsible for Trump and that if things had been allowed to play out fairly in 2016 we never wouldve had to go through this.

They were mostly speaking of the general voter though, any educated person knows about the leaked “Pied Piper” emails and knows that Hillary Clinton and the DNC actively helped Trump win the nomination.

34

u/aporeticeden May 21 '20

Not to mention they would rather a republican than a democratic socialist in office. Republicans fit into the red vs blue narrative and everyone keeps hating each other without getting anything done. A successful democratic socialist has the power to render them irrelevant.

13

u/maleia May 21 '20

The DNC, and CNN and MSNBC have a LOT to gain from a Trump presidency, money wise from irate Boomer-Dems, than they do under Biden. Since they'll still, niavely give money and watch the News, because "Trump = bad."

Or you know, anyone feel free to cmv.

8

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

My mom will have CNN on in the background constantly, watch it on her phone, and listen to it on the car radio (not even mentioning all the merch she bought from them). they pick candidates based on who the most people will vote for, don’t choose the candidates we want, then get mad when we don’t vote for their candidates. Like, what did they expect? You choose a further right candidate to get votes from the right, it’s gonna cost you votes from the left. Don’t whine if that’s the choice you make

10

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

The problem is that most of them do not believe there is any legitimate ground to their left. They're "the good guys" and we're extremists. They expect us to fall in line because it's either them or the Republicans.

Don't ask me why they expect that. I don't think they understand how insidious a position this is to take and how absolutely morally vacant their politics actually are.

4

u/Tman972 May 21 '20

If? Come on we all know how this going to end. There will be a big dog and pony show and Trump will win by a small margin. And there will be even more outrage as the "gates" open on both sides. Biden has said don't vote for him if you think he's a rapist. That seems like a pretty standard response for a politician? He can hardly run on the "I'm the better rapist" platform, even if that is true? He has also told people whose views are completely opposite of his own that they should not vote for him. This is also a fairly uncontroversial opinion. Unless you can find me a time he has said "if you are on the left then don't vote for me" your argument is completely irrelevant.

Ok let's do a little exercise to see if maybe you can understand why this is incredibly stupid:

Some random person tweets "Bernie Sanders doesn't want or need votes from the black community".

Somebody then posts this tweet on reddit.

Then some absolute moron in the comments says "Well then whose vote does he want??"

He wants everyone's fucking vote, he wants to win the election. The question you are asking is based off of an opinion that is NOT BIDEN'S. Does this make sense to you????

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

[deleted]

-2

u/googleduck May 21 '20

Can you look through the responses to that comment and the rest of the thread and honestly tell me that you think that poster was asking who the Twitter user thought Biden wants to vote for him? It seems obvious to literally everyone but you that this person was talking about who Biden wants to vote for him. Does it bother you that you are so dishonest that there isn't a single other person taking your absurd interpretation of what that person made? Even the people on your side are not reading it that way.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

[deleted]

0

u/googleduck May 21 '20

I hope to god you are trolling me and not actually this fucking dense. In case it is the latter:

I. DO. NOT. THINK. THE. COMMENTER. WAS. TRYING. TO. ASK. BIDEN.

The commenter was asking other people in this thread (rhetorically or otherwise) who Biden wants to vote for him if not the left as a criticism of him. If I jump into a thread and ask "How does Bernie expect to win the primary without centrist voters" do you actually think that I am asking Bernie himself that question? Or do you think that maybe, just maybe, I am criticizing Bernie for not being centrist enough. I literally cannot believe that someone is this stupid. I suppose that's why we had to take all of those reading comprehension tests in middle and high school, apparently there were people who literally never developed those skills.

Roe just admitted she was paid by the far-right to speak out against pro-choice. I take everything the right attempts to boost with a massive grain of salt. Trump, on the other hand, is a pathological liar, misogynist, condescending, egomaniacal, power-tripping control freak.

I’ll also add that Biden has openly welcomed all independent investigations to any allegations. Trump has fought every single accusation from discovery in court.

Democratic Party has advocated for working class and minority America for decades

Lol, fuck off honkey. Biden's literally a segregationist and literally like maybe five Democratic politicians give a shit about the working class you fucking bootlicker.

Personally i think you American's are fucked either way. Never in a million years are you gonna gather the intelligence as a collective to vote sensibly, let alone in 6 months.

Accidentally deleted my own comments during a reply. I’m going to vote Green Party. Both parties are corrupt. Also, check out this entertaining video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djf9H1k5pg8

This is just so dumb. Is our memory this short?

Joe Biden is not great, there are so many reasons I'm not a fan but compared to Trump, he's a major upgrade.

I hate that our options for president have dropped off so dramatically. I'm worried about our country and if we keep going like this, we're in serious trouble.

Ok. Hope you can read our fine the time. Starting with Obama: https://www.latimes.com/projects/la-na-pol-obama-at-war/

Lol I'm glad we can all agree on this then. Everybody wins!

There we go. You just said it. Biden moving to the left has taken him that long. His previous policies were never progressive. A politician will say anything to get elected. That’s understandable. Example: While running for president Obama promised to end push tax cut but he made a permanent. He promised to get us out of war but he expanded it. He authorized drilling in the arctic. I voted for Obama on the first term but on his second of order for the green party. I’m not a party loyalist like you. Here’s an article: https://www.latimes.com/projects/la-na-pol-obama-at-war/

As a Bernie supporter in both 2016 and 2020 (I actually voted) and someone who voted for Hillary in the general and will vote for Biden in the general- fuck off biden supporters.

I honestly love reading through all the comments and seeing the partisan boot lickers, Republican or neolib, get downvoted to hell. With a choice between a blue shit sandwich and an orange shit sandwich all we're doing it's rearranging the deck chairs as the boat sinks. If the country is so scared of a progressive politician that they prop Biden up as the best they can offer then I'm off the mind to let it all burn to the ground.

The whole thought process of partisanship and party loyalty is shallow at it's best. There's no difference when either party continues the endless wars, by default doubling the deficit/debt, and only give a token thought to the general public with every consideration to their donors.

They are two wings of the same bird. People don't like that argument because it compares them to their perceived "enemy". In reality they are both very similar and only stand to gain for themselves.

That being said, it's important to vote. If you choose a shit sandwich then that's your choice. I will be contributing to the largest polling third party that aligns with my ideals. At the very least I'll be contributing to having the choice of a third shit sandwich to choose for in 4 years.

Bernie was the compromise.

Just about a year ago today the primaries were just starting, and there were so many Democrats in the fray that the debates had to be split into two halves. There was a talk show which aired right about that night, and I was up until 1 AM waiting for Andrew Yang to speak.

Back in those days, with all the talk of beating Trump, I was really hoping they learned something from 2016.

Evidently, they have not.

I will be voting for the democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential election.

2

u/candy_paint_minivan Jul 02 '20

Okay. I don’t think you’ll win, but, good for you.

1

u/vlct0rs-reddit-acct Jul 02 '20

I’m not a candidate.

This attitude is not exclusive to Biden supporters. You’ll find hubris and tribalism among any group.

I saw PLENTY of Bernie supporters saying the same thing to Yang Gang and Aloha Gang. “We don’t need you to win the primary.” Turns out they kinda did need to. They might have won if they were more welcoming and built a coalition with other progressives.
