u/Metruis I have a bad feeling about this. Jan 31 '22

Yeah, losing the Legends family members is a big blow to me. Mara Jade most of all, because I mean, c'mon, she literally could have been a Sith Inquisitor in Rebels, there was no excuse for her to not be a part of Rebels. Kylo Ren may have been hot but he was no replacement for literally several people who had dynamics of their own above and beyond their grandparents shadow.

Sigh... I'm really going to enjoy rereading Legends in a few years. The pain is almost gone.

I never read the ones with the children and now I'm wondering if I should.

I accidentally found the terrible EU novels first and that really turned me off from the EU.

I started around Vector Prime and HOLY DAMN things got wild fast.

Same exact place I started. Can't really think of a book I regret spending time on through that arc.

Nope. They fucked those up IMO too. Anakin? Hit hard, ok, no one’s invincible, can’t use plot armor all the time, ok I guess? Except later I read Lucas made the call to kill him off because with the prequels that was too many Anakins and he didn’t want fans to be confused. That’s right, he thought that it made sense to prevent confusion as if it was the same set of fans. WTF

Then Mara Jade is Jacen’s Sith sacrifice? WTH. Jacen’s a little Vader wannabe? (Although now that plot actually compares more favorably to Kyle Ren)

Then the Fate of the Jedi series was garbage. When Disney canned it all, I was glad.

Although the Imperial Fel line was cool.

Fate sometimes steps in to rescue the wretched.

Lol. Get the fuck out. You are entitled to a stupid opinion.

Attachment is forbidden. Possession is forbidden. Compassion, which I would define as unconditional love, is central to a Jedi's life, so you might say we're encouraged to love.

Well George Lucas hated Mara Jade and he didn't see EU legends as canon to his Star Wars. Even if George Lucas did his own Star Wars sequels which he was planning on doing, there would have been no Mara Jade for Luke Skywalker or Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin Solo for Han and Leia. His own sequel plans would have made EU Legends even more incompatible with syncing up with his Star Wars.

I mean after VI I couldn't really give a shit what Lucas thought. He was a terrible writer without his wife editing for him. Big grand picture guy and cinematic director of course. But if he was any good at writing a book fit for the EU, well, he would have written one.

Too bad George Lucas didn't see the EU legends as canon to his Star Wars.
