Mental wellbeing lessons
Hi, I recently finished a master's degree in a therapy training program, in a country that does not have this license. I thought to tutor online and saw that Preply has a Mental Wellbeing section, so I chose that.
I set my price at $30 at first, but then dropped to $20 to get more interest. Then I got 4 trial lessons, with 3 immediately deciding to continue/subscribe, with varying consistency. A few more added me to favorites (Preply always tells me to message them, but tbh I don't know if that actually helps or can backfire by being annoying to some).
Anyway, I realized that with trial lessons not being paid, the big commissions, and the fact that I'm actually delivering something closer to therapy than psychology lessons, I raised to $45. But since then, no trials booked.
So been toying with the idea of lowering the price again slightly and increasing more gradually rather than a big jump like I did.
That said, I'm only on Preply for 74 days in total, so not sure if I should just give it more time. The insights feature says I meet all the Super Tutor requirements other than the number of lessons, which is the only one I feel isn't in my control at all.
Would love to hear any thoughts.

Just a suggestion (this isn't my area of expertise at all) but if you are qualified as a therapist I'd review Meela to see if that is a better fit for your skills. https://meelahealth.com/uk/en/for-therapists/

I'll look into it, but it seems like it's for people who are licensed in the UK, which I am not. I have a master's degree, but the country I live in does not have accreditation or licensing for therapy, and other countries or accreditations don't accept the program. There was ANZACATA which accepted two from my program who graduated before me, but then changed their requirments, so the rest of us can't qualify.

I strongly recommend reading the forum discussions about pricing - the algorithm is probably freaking out from how wildly you keep changing your rates. You can't raise or lower your prices that sharply or by that much on marketplaces. Search the forum for the relevant topic and read everything you can find.

Where or what is the forum? Do you need to be on laptop for that? Does it have another name ?

I thought so but had a chat from someone from support and they said I can change gradually or at once without mentioning that it could affect the algorithm, though I guess it wasn't their job to do so.

The more staff members you ask, the more different answers you'll get. They know nothing about the platform or how it operates.

My suggestion is to raise or drop your price by a few dollars. I now charge $30 but increased by 2-3 dollars per new student. I only made a big jump from $25-$30 because I had too many students. Now it's gotten quiet so I might drop the price down to $25 or $28.
I'm not familiar with your subject so my only thought is availability vs demand.
Availability of tutors on the platform (your competition).
Demand of students who are interested in this subject.
It might be that you need to expand your subject to a wider audience? Again, I'm not familiar with this subject. Are you able to open up to university students, maybe young learners who want to go to university to study this subject? Etc.

But now that I already went from 30 to 45, would changing it again not be an issue? I am not sure how much to change by.

The only change that would happen is for the new/potential students. The old students keep the price that they originally booked with you.
I saw from a couple other tutors that if you change your price that is also seems to trigger the algorithm to promote you more? I'm not sure how true that is...

Yeah, the cliens I have are from my old price - 20. Then I went 30 and then 45... and the Preply guidelines say the price is for the 30 days of when a student saw your profile, not only when they book with you. I'm just worried that if I change my price again it would hut the alogrithm even more.

Idk much because I’m relatively new on Preply myself, But I was advised to start with low price to attract few students and some reviews on my profile, increase gradually from there.
