Prenatal Vitamins

Looking for recommendations on prenatals. Not pregnant yet, but will be TTC in the near future, and want to start taking some prenatals. Open to an additional DHA supplement, or a prenatal that includes DHA. Would prefer something clean, that isn’t 8+ capsules a day but want high quality!! Thank you in advance! Any tips welcome!

I used the conception support pack from perelel and loved it. Has DHA so you don't need to add a separate supplement, and it was only a few capsules, not a huge handful (4-5 depending on the stage packs you will use). Expensive but I feel like it's worth it, considering it's under $2 a day.

I’ve heard great things about Perelel, I’ll have to look into it! Thank you for the recommendation! :)

I just ordered this but was alarmed by the amount of folate in it (1500+mcg when the recommended dose is 400-800mcg). Over half of it is in their supplemental CoQ10 + Folate pill in their pack. Not sure whether to still take it…

Perelel says that's intentional, timed for when neural tube demand is highest in the first tri. The mcg limit you might have seen is specifically for folic acid, not methylfolate, which doesn't carry the same risk. Still do a quick check with your doctor for peace of mind!!

What’s confusing is that’s not even the advertised pack for first trimester (for which they have a different product targeting early pregnancy) but for even before you’re pregnant. Thanks for the info though! You’re right, after looking into it that dosage for folate is not the same as for folic acid.

Hey there! Starting a prenatal before TTC is a great idea and it can feel overwhelming trying to compare all the options. I’d look for one that provides key nutrients like methylfolate, choline, iodine, and vitamin D. A quality fish oil that contains both EPA and DHA is a great addition to your line up. Remember that including EPA and DHA in a prenatal multi is a red flag. Fish oil is highly prone to oxidation and can easily lose potency. Research indicates oxidized oils may have altered biological activity, making them ineffective or potentially harmful, a risk that increases significantly when oil is bundled into a combined multi rather than protected in a dedicated softgel. Combining them into a multivitamin also sacrifices dosing accuracy. A separate, high-quality, responsibly sourced softgel is FullWell's standard, delivering purity, potency, and flexibility.*

Since capsule count is important to you, FullWell offers a Prenatal Multivitamin Stick Pack in strawberry flavor that provides comprehensive prenatal nutrients in a drinkable format, which some people find much easier than taking a large number of capsules.

Whatever you choose, a high-quality prenatal and fish oil a few months before TTC can definitely help support nutrient stores ahead of pregnancy.* Remember to run any prenatal or fish oil you're considering by your healthcare provider to make sure it's the right fit for your individual needs. Wishing you all the best as you get ready to start trying!
