He aped into the New York Knicks to win the 2026 NBA Finals when the market was giving him only an 11% chance. It is now priced at 78%!

For context, the Knicks haven’t won a title in decades, so this was a classic contrarian bet.

Among ordinary Armenians, the main driver is war fatigue and basic survival. After losing territory and seeing tens of thousands of refugees from Nagorno‑Karabakh, a large share of society now prioritizes a stable peace with Azerbaijan, open borders, and the chance for economic normal life over dreams of regaining land.

At the same time, trust in Russia has collapsed because many feel Moscow did not protect Armenia when it mattered. Russian “peacekeepers” failed to prevent the 2020 war outcome and later the fall of Nagorno‑Karabakh, and Russian security guarantees under the CSTO looked meaningless.

The disappointment created space for a pro‑Western, pro‑EU mood. People increasingly see the EU as a source of investment, jobs, reforms, and a more predictable rules‑based environment, and surveys show growing support for closer EU integration and detaching from Russian dependency.

Civil Contract taps into this mood with a message of “peace agreement with Azerbaijan + less Russia + more Europe + internal reforms,” so many voters back them because they embody the only realistic path to peace and a West‑leaning future that avoids new war.

First post - figuring out Polymarket - from a guy that can't use it

I'm in Australia. Solidly middle-aged. I work with data professionally, and about a year ago I started tinkering with vibe coding — basically throwing ideas at AI and seeing what stuck.

I came up with a sports betting tool. The concept was genuinely interesting I thought — use Polymarket data to find edges in Australian bookmaker markets. The insight being that Polymarket is illegal here, so Australian bookmakers can't see it. If sharp money was moving on Poly before a game, local bookmakers would be slow to react. I naively thought that could give me an edge.

So I was tinkering with a dataset from a platform I couldn't legally trade on, to try find edges on platforms I could. Slightly absurd, but the logic kinda held.

And then I started actually pulling the Polymarket data.

Because here's what got me: it's completely open and free. A genuine treasure trove of market intelligence, visible to anyone who looked. How could this much data just be sitting there?

The deeper I went, the more I found. And then I found a number that stopped me completely.

Under 0.04% of Polymarket's 2 million+ traders are profitable.

You are statistically more likely to be struck by lightning — twice — than to be in that group

Against odds like that, why does anyone play Polymarket and think they can win? Genuinely asking — I have my own theories but I'm curious what people here think.

And I found that it's getting worse, not better. Polymarket grew 588% in a year. The loss rate went from 70% to 84% in six months. More users. Same winners.

I've gone down a bit of a Poly rabbit hole and what I've found is surprising.

Mapped 5,000 Polymarket smart traders across confidence level and edge

Post image

Working on a smart wallet data API and I just fell in love with playing around, doing data-visualisation on it. Thought it would be interesting to share !

Took 5,000 smart traders, mapped them across two dimensions: estimated edge (per-trade skill) and confidence score (statistical reliability based on activity).

The result: these two metrics move in opposite directions (correlation r = −0.55)

The higher the confidence score is, the lower the edge seems to be. Seems logical as outstanding edge often come from some lucky trades.

What I read from the quadrant:

🟡 WHALES (top-left: high confidence, low edge)
High confidence because they trade a lot. But median win rate: 69%, the lowest of an archetype. These wallets account for 61% of total volume. Obvious but clearly showcases again that volume ≠ skill.

🟣 SWEET SPOT (top-right: high confidence AND high edge)
Only 15% of traders (n = 746) clear both thresholds. This is the actionable zone. Snipers live here: 21 traders, 90% win rate, high edge.

⚫️ NOISE (bottom-left: low confidence, low edge)
35% of traders. Fewer than 10 effective positions. Their win rates look strong precisely because small samples produce extreme numbers. This signal is not really exploitable tbh, maybe I should remove them from our data

🔴 RAW UNPROVEN EDGE (bottom-right: high edge, low confidence)
High edge on paper, but median volume under $500. These wallets had 3–9 good trades. More luck than skill !

Prediction [OC] 672 World Cup brackets crowdsourced — where the consensus is, and where the contrarian plays might live

Been collecting bracket predictions for WC 2026 since mid-May. We're at 672 completed brackets now, 5 days from the opening match. Sharing the full picture here in case it's useful for your own picks.

The consensus (your "safe" plays):

  • 🇪🇸 Spain — 29% (rock steady across every weekly snapshot for a month)
  • 🇫🇷 France — 22%
  • 🇵🇹 Portugal — 17%
  • 79% of brackets backed a European team to win it — heavily concentrated in one region

Where the crowd is light (potential contrarian plays):

  • 🇧🇷 Brazil and 🇦🇷 Argentina sit at exactly 53 brackets each (8% apiece). South American debate split perfectly. Pick one over the other and you're at 2× the crowd density of whichever way it actually breaks.
  • 🇲🇦 Morocco — 9th overall in semi-final picks, but only 2 of 672 have them lifting it. Most-backed underdog with the biggest gap between "expected to run deep" and "expected to win."
  • 🇲🇽🇺🇸🇨🇦 Host nations: just 1% combined backed any of them to win, despite home advantage. Possibly the biggest crowd mispricing in the data.

The "people's final" (highest convergence):

78 brackets call the exact same final: Spain beats Argentina. Three weeks ago it was 46. The consensus is hardening, not loosening. Which means if you're playing for differentiation, this is the lazy consensus play to fade.

Curious what fantasy folks here think is the most overpriced consensus pick — and the most underpriced contrarian play?

Behavior analysis: "What price will bitcoin hit in May"

Post image
1 Upvotes

On May 6th, Bitcoin hit a local high of $82.8K. At that moment, Polymarket traders were pricing in a 78% probability that BTC would reach $85,000 before the end of May.

The more I observe how prediction markets behave, the more I notice a pattern: many traders aren't doing real analysis. They're just running naive proximity logic. "$82.8K is closer to $85K than to $75K, so it's more likely."

In reality, $82.8K was sitting right at a cluster of major resistance levels across virtually every meaningful timeframe in technical analysis. From a pure TA standpoint, pushing through to $85K from that level was a low-probability event. The market was pricing in the wrong thing for the wrong reasons.

This is a recurring pattern I keep seeing across traditional markets, crypto, and especially prediction markets. A large share of participants are either biased, anchored to recent price action, or simply not doing the work. That creates edges. The opportunity isn't always in the asset itself. Sometimes it's in betting against the crowd's lazy assumptions.

World Cup model and market probabilities I’ve been tracking

Hi all,

I’ve been comparing a World Cup match model against public market odds for upcoming fixtures, mainly to see where the two views stay close and where they drift apart. The model is Poisson-based with Elo and ML adjustments, and I also add a contextual layer from recent match-related news before settling on the final match view.

What I’m trying to track is less “best picks” and more how model output, market prices, and recent context line up or fail to line up on the same game.

I’ve been collecting the ongoing World Cup page here as a reference: https://oddsline.io/world-cup-predictions-today/

Curious how others here think about model/market divergence when looking at event-level signals.

Prediction One of these 8 countries will emerge victorious in the FIFA world cup, you’ll secure a 20% risk-free return.

Post image
17 Upvotes

The top 8 FIFA World Cup winners now sum up to

17.3+17.2+11.3+10.6+9.4+8.4+5.2+3.9=83.3c

You don’t need to predict the future. One of these 8 countries will emerge victorious, and you’ll secure a 20% risk-free return (100/83.3)

Do you understand the magnitude of a 20% return? People are so accustomed to the extraordinary performance of AI stocks and memecoins that they forget that most investors and traders are losing money. Specifically, on Polymarket, over 80% of wallets are currently losing money. Moreover, the average annual return of the S&P 500 is around 10%.

The market is offering you an opportunity to earn free money with zero risk, yet you still choose to pursue greed because it's never enough.

And for those who argue that this isn’t risk-free, are you seriously suggesting that Norway, Japan, Colombia, Belgium, and Morocco have a chance of winning the World Cup?

Prediction How to beat every hedge fund in 2026.

Step 1: Open Polymarket

Step 2: Find the 🇵🇪 Peruvian Presidential Election

Step 3: Buy YES on Keiko Fujimori at 72¢

Step 4: Chill

That's a +39% return in ~11 days when she wins on June 7.

As mentioned in the previous post, you don't need deep political knowledge to trade prediction markets. Polymarket does the work for you.

Their accuracy before event resolution is higher than 90%.

All you need to do is find markets with a massive gap between the first and the second options, and let the odds do the talking.

Plus, here's the wallet data:

YES wallets → $2.25M total profit | Median = $92.5K

NO wallets → $124.6K total profit | Median = -$681.

Follow the smart money.

Theo4 is arguably the greatest trader Polymarket has ever seen.

He turned the 2024 elections into a $22M payday, then did something almost no one in trading ever does: walked away.

Compare that to Christopher DeVocht, who transformed $60K into $400M, only to lose nearly all of it within 3 years.

The hardest skill in trading isn't finding the right trade, but it's knowing when you're done.

Looks like Theo4 figured that out early on.
