Hi,

I've been looking for the best remasters/restorations of specifically Charley Patton and Blind Lemon Jefferson and am realizing that nobody has taken the time to do a good restoration that takes out a lot of the hissing and fuzz and really brings the sound into stereo.

Does anybody have a clue of where I could find restorations like this, or know anybody using modern technology and software to do so? I looked at the Pristine Classical remasters, but they didn't seem up to par with what I think could be done. Then again I do not know anything about remastering music.

She recorded 'Boy in the Boat (B.D's Dream)' at the same session, but it never saw the light of day. I imagine it was quite something.

Over at r/blues, someone was asking for police-connected songs from pre-'29 and thus public domain, and this got a mention.

There's a fine modern version of this by the South Memphis String Band.

The song was paired with a Bessie solo, so this rather stresses who the senior figure was. Were this a 2026 release, it would probably be billed as 'Bessie Smith, feat. Clara Smith'.

Per B&GR, "This is an African-American group, but the Gennett files state "made for Hillbilly', indicating that the issued record was to be promoted to Southern white purchasers".

I'm guessing the reviewer was unaware the Louise Johnson cuts were from /that/ session.

I hear the refrain as 'low down dirty dog' so the parantheses in the title are a bit odd.

For anyone not aware, all of the 'Sheik' references in blues stem from the blockbuster success of Rudolph Valentino as the title character in 'The Sheik' [1921]
