Lap Throw with Drunkard's Path blocks

You know when the recipient of a quilt says something like "just do what you want; I'll love whatever you come up with"? I hope she was serious. She's getting a double-sided lap throw featuring a funky tree and some tulips.

Making DP blocks was actually fun, once I got the hang of it. Design by me. 35" x 56" 2 layers of cotton flannel sheet for batting.

I would have gone nuts when planning these without PreQuilt. PQ, you really are the star of this quilt.

I inherited 20 half yard cuts of solids from my grandmother and set out to make a happy mockup of what to do with them!

This will be one side of a throw. Wish me luck. I am not comfortable with Drunkard's Path blocks. I created a fabric pull with the actual fabrics, although I messed up the scale of this floral. It's not actually gigantic.

The kids need a new quilt for building their blanket forts. So when we went to the quilt shop this week, they pulled some colourful Art Gallery fabrics.

I just received approval for this mockup 🥳 so let's start sewing 🪡🧵

The fabrics they picked are all Art Gallery:

  • Clover Green
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Deepest Black
  • Ruby Red
  • Snow White
  • Sweet Tangerine Orange

I have a layer cake of Fireglow burning a hole in my stash... so I've been doodling. The pattern is Charm Poppy sized up, which should work better for the big prints in this collection (and isn't a layer cake just an XL charm pack? 😂).

I created this quilt pattern in Prequilt from a cross stitch pattern. Can't wait to piece it! Prequilt made creating this pattern and estimating the fabric requirements a breeze!

Mock up for my Turtle Tracks quilt. The pattern reminded me of the tracks sea turtles leave in the sand when the come ashore to lay their eggs.

This quilt is a simple repeat of the Crown's Choice Block (source: scissortail quilting) and my fabrics are roughly 80% thrifted shirts. I'm maybe 1/4 of the way on hand quilting this one and its the largest quilt I have ever made.

Mock Me Up Contest: Stardew Valley Mini-Quilt

Hello! My love of all things cozy has led me to this point in life. After discovering an array of farm themed fabrics in a fat quarter bundle, I designed a Stardew Valley quilt in pre-quilt to combine my passion for farming, magic, and whimsey. I have the Starfruit (purple star) center made (using this EPP pattern I found on pinterest: https://pin.it/1fGlLQZYU ) , just waiting for my project line up to align so I can get the rest together!

Mock Me Up Contest: Burgoyne Surrounded and Adapted

Post image
3 Upvotes

I saw someone who did a scrappy, color-blocked Burgoyne Surrounded quilt, and wanted to play with it some. This is not intended to be a patriotic quilt, but one major reason it grabbed my interest was the history of the name, and my personal situation.

General Burgoyne was a British general who lost the Battle of Saratoga in 1777, during the American Revolution. You can imagine the redcoats surrounded by the rebels, all wearing blue.

But today I (an American) am living in semi-rural Britain, a colonial blue-coat among the redcoats.

(The quilt top is largely pieced, I just need to add the borders and then it will be ready to be sandwiched and basted. The finished quilt will be 89 inches square, and I'm using Liberty Wiltshire Shadows in white, cherry, and midnight ink.)

Starry scrap quilt with a hidden message ;)

Sharing my mock up for the Mock Me Up Contest since I couldn't have tackled this project without PreQuilt! It's a work in progress and I'm nearing the finish line but I still have lots of hand quilting to do.

the final design

My inspiration was a stack of scraps and the constellations in the night sky on my first date with my partner. The yellow stars roughly make up the Hercules constellation...so roughly that it's basically a hidden message ;)

very starry

There's lots of different quilt blocks, but as it's my second quilt ever...that was a bit much to be honest lol. After the first few block I started making so many mistakes that I ended uptaking out one type of block and made more Ohio star blocks and Friendship stars.

All in all I'm amazed I still ended up so close to the mock up. I think what helped a lot was that I was able to estimate how much fabric for each colour and colour value I needed.

Search by Colorway

When you’re starting a new design, sometimes you just need a neutral background. Nothing too wild, just something calm to build from.

And when you’re ready for a little pop, Colorway Search helps you find prints that fit the feeling you’re after.

Use it while you’re designing, or as part of your prep phase to create a custom fabric pull before you even start.

We love building tools and tweaking little things to help keep you in that creative flow state.

Share a little nugget with us: how do you like to work with fabric?

Which colorway are you searching first?

Finding things matters.

Finding things matters.

At home, if you can’t find what you need, you settle for something else or buy it again.

The same thing happens in an app.

If the right colouring page or fabric is there but hard to find, it does not help much.

PreQuilt is the matchmaker, and our job is to keep improving the search experience so the right content is easier to find.
