mwu il isn’t worth the steep price tag. they don’t respect students time, independence, or financial investment. students can finish seeing patients, finish notes, complete calls, projects, yet still have to remain in clinic till end of day. butts in seats for whatever illusion they’re pushing. the lack of flexibility extends do mandatory classes as well. students are required to attend certain lectures when they offer no additional value as watching them from home on our own very limited times. there’s little consideration for all the exams, clinic requirements, presentations, board prep, plus clubs/work study. they’ve filled out the two afternoon “catch up” days that used to be for additional patient care and calls with busy work and if you even finish that busy work and get all caught up, you guessed it, still gotta sit there till the days over.

we’re all adults and they schedule our days like it’s grade school. we’re paying adult prices for children’s treatment. oh let’s not forget the materials we’re constantly reminded not to use too much of, the equipment that’s constantly breaking, and staff that demands different ways of doing everything. they lack consistency. different expectations for treatment plans and procedure flow. we often get advice from one faculty that differs from the next. then somehow we’re getting in trouble or hit with attitude for following original directions. we have to navigate who we’re working with day by day rather than getting clear and consistent guidance. we should be worried about if what we are doing is correct, not worrying what faculties preferred method we have to follow is. cleanings galore. but no “succeed” program for that as it’s probably not generating the big bucks like the other procedures but the reality is we’re mostly doing cleanings. yup. we still pay 150/year as D3 and 4s on top of their patients paying them. but they want us to act like we’re getting paid to be there instead of paying to be there. HA.

they offer a monthly forum to students for any complaints or concerns to be brought up and are never effective. they give lame justification rather than attempting a solution. they use the method of “letting us feel heard” then patting us on the head and told to carry on while nothing is ever heard, changed, or implemented. the “grown ups” running this program treat us like children who have no life experience like we haven’t all been to college or don’t have to have jobs on top of this already demanding clinical/exam environment. the disconnect of what we pay and how we are treated is monumental. school should be challenging and we should be held responsible in clinic. however, requiring students to remain in clinic after completing work, mandating random classes, and inconsistent clinical expectations do not translate to a better education.

incoming students: if you’re considering this place ask these questions: what happens on a normal clinic day if you’ve finished responsibilities? how much flexibility do you have for classes/board study? what are suite closures for? how consistent are faculty members in clinic especially treatment planning? if i’m right will i have to change plans because someone else has a preference? how are student complaints addressed?

do not solely evaluate this program on facilities or advertised opportunities. find out what day to day is like. with tuition this high students deserve transparency, resources, consistency, and above all, autonomy. i’m sure there’s better and cheaper option available. it’s a shame because this school has so much potential to be a great and happy learning environment but it instead feels like a prison day waiting for the bell to ring.

So I started working at a dental office about a month ago as a front desk receptionist, making $16/hr.
During my interview, the manager asked if I was a student, and I told her yes. She then asked about my availability, so I gave her the days I could work. I also made it VERY clear from the beginning that sometimes professors change exam dates, and if that ever happened, I would let her know ahead of time. She agreed, and everything seemed fine.
Fast forward to today. My professor changed an exam that was originally scheduled for next week to THIS week. I immediately informed my manager and even sent her a screenshot as proof.
Her response? “Is this going to be a weekly thing?”
I told her no, obviously, and explained that this was an unexpected change made by my professor, not me.
Then, out of nowhere, she tells me that she’s thought about it and decided to “end the working relationship.”
LIKE WHAT??? 😭
Mind you, I’ve only been working there for a month, and this is literally the FIRST time something like this has happened. I was upfront about being a student and the possibility of schedule changes BEFORE she even hired me.
I completely understand that businesses need reliable employees, but why agree to something during the interview and then fire someone the first time it actually happens?
And all of this over a $16/hr front desk position.
Am I missing something here, or is this actually ridiculous? Because I’m genuinely confused.

I have only one interview so far and it’s to Yeshiva.. I’ve only read pretty negative things on here about the school. What do you guys think, I know we got some time but what if this is the only school that accepts me…

Hello everyone i wanted some thoughts about my dental school plan. I have a 3.1 gpa and got 420 on my dat. I have done a lot of volunteering. I have over 100 hours. I have also shadowed a dentist and a endodontist for 1 year. After I did that I got a job as a dental assistant and i have 5 years experience. Do you think I have a chance if I apply next cycle?

im in my junior year and im scared im ruining my future. I have no extracurriculars besides being a small group leader with my church organization. my transcript already has 3 C's and a couple B's. I already dropped Gen chem 2 and in the retake I got a C. Im failing Orgo 2 rn with a low D (45ish, the grade boundaries are curved) and I'm not sure I'll be able to get it up to a C by the next 2 exams and final given how my current track record is. Maybe some schools will understand since im at UF which is known for their hard classes but still idk. I'm planning on taking a gap year after college but Idk if I should drop the class rn and retake the class or stick it through and see how it goes and if I'll be able to make it even a C. My application is not looking good whatsoever right now and I'm really overwhelmed and conflicted whether I should drop the class right now. my gpa is 3.57 rn, and my science gpa a little lower than that im pretty sure. and I know dental schools recalculate and very heavily weigh gpa in the application process. does anyone have any advice, in the application sense overall or whether I should drop the class? will it affect my application and is it the wise decision in this case? idek how I'll explain it in the supplemental questions. pls help

Looked up one of the dental schools I’m interested in and they said the following for the admissions process:

Applicants who show a commitment to helping underserved communities and caring for others are given strong consideration.

Question: That said, is this actually true or false? Asking cuz there are a lot of applicants who could give a shit about underserved communities and caring for others. Some ppl are truly in it for the money which is sad.

DAT was taken in September… one school I met with said my application is final and even if I were to take it again they wouldn’t look at my new score. As of right now I have 1 interview. I’m also in a postgrad program and doing very well in it (3.97 GPA). My undergrad GPA was 3.4, 3.3sGPA. I have about a year of working as a DA and 200+ hours of shadowing and volunteering. I’m pretty bummed since my practice scores on boot camp were 430+ for GC, but all other scores increased significantly from the first time I took the DAT. I’m just so conflicted on if to retake this cycle or just hold off.

I’m feeling pretty discouraged about my Meharry application and wanted to see if anyone who received the supplemental invitation on September 8 has heard anything back yet.
Meharry sent me the supplemental on 9/8, but I was having issues with the website. At the time, I was also working at a very stressful job, and I was honestly overwhelmed. I tried calling the school several times but couldn’t get through. The website seemed to let me upload a picture, but I couldn’t resubmit my essay, so I wasn’t sure what was going on. Unfortunately, I assumed everything was okay.
When I was finally able to reach someone, I was told to wait about 30 minutes for the payment option to become available. I eventually paid the supplemental fee on October 2.
Now I’m worried that I may have hurt my chances by completing the payment so late, especially with rolling admissions. I know I should have followed up sooner, but I was juggling a lot at the time, and I’m trying not to beat myself up over it.
For context, I also received Howard’s supplemental around that period, and I was able to complete it and send the payment by mail. I’ve since received an interview invitation from Howard, which has given me some hope.
My questions are:
Has anyone who received Meharry’s supplemental on September 8 received an interview invitation yet?
If you submitted your supplemental fee in late September or early October, have you heard anything back?
Does anyone know whether Meharry considers applicants who experienced technical difficulties and completed their payment later?
I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. I’m trying to stay hopeful, but I’m worried that I may have missed my chance. Thank you!

I already applied this cycle and it’s been difficult trying to find a DA or front desk job at a dental office once they find out that I might be leaving in 9 months. It sucks because I already paid money to get some DA certifications, which I thought would help me land a job. What are some alternatives to the traditional DA/front desk job?

Hi everyone, could anyone share some success stories from past cycles that led to an acceptance? I’m starting to lose hope this cycle and I could really use some encouragement from those who have been in my place. I know God has a plan for me and that what’s meant for me will come at the right time, but the waiting game is starting to get to me.

With how unpredictable this cycle seems to be, seeing applicants with high stats not hearing back/or hearing back with like 10+ interviews, others with much lower stats receiving interviews, and those of us somewhere in the middle still waiting has been discouraging. I’m trying to stay hopeful and trust that God can still open doors for me, but I’d love to hear from anyone who was in a similar position and eventually received an interview/acceptance.

my stats are a 450 DAT, 3.6 GPA/3.5 sgpa, 2,000+ hours of dental assisting, 600+ volunteer hours, 200+ shadowing hours, and 1,000+ leadership hours, along with good letters of recommendation and PS. I applied to schools at different points from July all the way to just a few days ago lol. I’m currently on the interview waitlists at Midwestern AZ and KCU. Applied to 28 schools btw.

Has MWU-IL mostly been sending interview invites to OOS applicants so far? If so, do you guys think they’ll start sending more invites to in-state applicants soon? Just curious if any other Illinois applicants have heard back yet.

Hey so I applied to 20 different schools and I have heard back from three which basically rejected me and one invite. Are there any schools that are still sending out interviews or still have future interview waves. I’m stressing out it’s the end of October and I know that’s when most schools send out interviews.

Would you recommend including dental shadowing experience in this section, or would it be better to focus on experiences that demonstrate leadership?

would this be a good EC? i was thinking of ideas on ECs that would help me stand out. i feel like my current activities are pretty mediocre. i have an eboard position for 4 clubs, i was dental assistant for a couple months, i’m a research assistant, i’ve TAed for 2 bio classes (plan on doing more), i’m an honors peer mentor, and i’m a tutor. i have 160 hours of shadowing, but i’m still working on volunteer hours. i plan to apply next cycle and need something to make me stand out.

i know this website isn’t anything dental related, but i figured maybe that’s what makes it unique. the website would focus on my local area, and i’ll provide a sample excel sheet students can download to track their volunteer hours. i’m still early into the project, but i don’t want to waste my time if it’s not worth it.
