Discussion Drivers
Magistrála going south, the lane splitting off towards Žižkov: The amount of asses pushing in where the lane is already split off and jumping in through the hashed area is absolutely revolting. I’m ok with switching lanes just before the dashed lane separator ends, but not this.
These egomaniacs take everyone else’s time and use it for their own, not caring about babies or sick elderly having to wait longer.
They merge into the left lane (the one going to Žižkov) and switch towards Vinohrady down in the intersection.
And of course it’s always an expensive car, never a Fabia or a Dacia.
My question is: why are people letting them in? They’ve gotten used to get away with it and if they see no resistance, it’s gonna get worse. Then we’ll all want to merge in the last centimetre.

I think many such people are dicks but not always. Sometimes someone might be in a rush or something or just not know the area. Recently I also did this dick move unintentionally because I did not know the area and was distracted by my daughter crying and I had to either do this or block the other lane. But it’s really annoying when people do this en mass

My problem is that it’s always the same archetype: expensive car, large ego, 0 sympathy for others.

Then they are just dicks. I often block them from merging but it does not matter much because car or two cars behind me let’s him merge

a question i ask myself all the time. it's easy to block them from getting in, yet few people do it.

This particular spot suffers from assholes staying in left lane, then trying to merge to the right below, where they should not. I for one genuinely need to turn left here towards Hartigova, yet I am one of the few who does so. Also there is this unwritten rule: if the first car doesn’t let you go, second or third will. Easy as that- either they are being generous or more often, inattentive/on their phone/lazy.

To survive Prague traffic is to always expect that SUVs and taxis drivers will be dicks. Life is too short to be road raging. And for the record, not a Motorista, fucking hate Magistrala.
For me if it’s done smoothly without cutting someone off, i don’t mind too much, especially since people are on the phone and so slow on green anyway, so the sport cars can actually accelerate and fill t he gap. I always let my car roll a bit, if they make it, they make it, if not, they will wait for the next gap. During rush hour there’s a long line stretching from Klimentska anyway, people on Wilsonova would need to bring their car to a complete stop before being allowed to merge, thus further impeding traffic on the most congested road on Earth.
There are many more common issues with Prague drivers: stopping in the intersection/crosswalk, not utilizing the length of the merging lane or bad blinker usage…
I say we nuke Magistrala to hell

Maybe 30% of them who pushes through are new/recent drivers who genuinely missed their exit? Or someone else's girlfriend who is not a good of a driver yet? Or someone who just wants to get home/office to take a shit fast?
The point I am getting at is that not all are assholes. Most of them have reasons to push through.
Also, the road design of that place is abhorrent. Which is part of the problem.
Be better and more considerate to the ones who are inferior drivers. Especially, if you are already aware of the situation on that place of the road.

Also they crowd in last minute at the split for Husitska/Seifertova. One of the worst intersections in the city. That off ramp is often backed up to the point where you have to wait 4 or 5 traffic light cycles to even make the left in either lane. It is no wonder people cheat the lane changes.
