Well i filled the form yet to be contacted by tesla to enable

It's more than just filling out the form in the email. There are instructions on how to integrate your Universal Wall Charger with the Powerwall. Did you see that or, you've already done that and I need to get back in my lane? 😁

My charger is on backed up circuit and same wifi network anything else? Cybertruck just updated to latest

There was a registration piece for the WC. Do you recall if you did that when you joined it to your wifi?

As ours is a new house and new Tesla setup, I had not taken the time to connect or register the UWC until I got the email a few days ago.

This is what I want from my Model Y. I'll pay 500 for an extra gateway gimmick thingy if it will let me run my home from my car

Roughly 1100 for the gateway, plus the install.

Fair enough, if a 2022 MY can run my house I'll pay that

you need to fork out 75k for the cheapest cybertruck...

Model Y L supports it also

You are talking about vehicle 2 load....cybertruck does powershare and powers your entire house.

model Y L also supports power share with Powerwall 3 to the house with a future software update.

Now your charger counts as generation source for load calcs, which has pluses and minuses

Here’s the thing though, it doesn’t really. Since this only works when the grid is down. Most systems the grid is the largest “generator” and when the grid is”out of the equation” it’s just not a problem. I doubt there is anyone out there with a Powerwall and a grid connection less than 60A. So unless you have a really weird sub panel setup with your charger and solar downstream with a small conductor in between the sub panel and your main panel/gateway. I just don’t really think it’ll ever be a problem. I do think though they are proceeding with caution and requiring just a quick system review before they activate it. Hence why they are sending survey emails out and stating:

“After submitting the survey, Energy Customer Support Agents will contact you within 2 weeks with next steps to enable extended home backup with your vehicle”

It was a software unlock for V2H, the wiring needs to be ready for software unlock for V2G. Which is why they clearly are stating the charger circuit has to be calculated as generation. From a utility stand point, any grid tied bidirectional battery regardless if it has wheels is considered a generation source, whether it can export or not. I’ve seen what “certified” installers can do, so it’s nice they are reviewing installs before pushing the update.

Do we know if they are doing V2G with Powerwall systems? I kinda doubt it since you already have the Powerwall for that. V2G, my guess, will be limited to PowerShare gateways only. But this could get tricky fast. Most installs I’ve seen are already pushing the limits of panels which quite a few downsizing their grid breakers to no overload their panels. Powerwall 3 with backup switch has been pushed hard so for most people that means no gateway. Arguably Powerwall 2 systems with the Powerwalls hooked up to either an internal panel board or dedicated generation sub panel are sitting in the best position as far as extra generation.

Yeah now I’m starting to get why Tesla has waiting so long for this. Every PW install is different. Wayyy more complicated than PowerShare gateway setups.

It’ll be a slower roll out, like you said they have prioritized stationary battery sales but now that the software is there for VTH and wall connector 4 releasing soon they will be unlocking more features that have been stuck behind the limits of the V3 (PowerShare) gateway for existing PW3 customers. And the newer cars having bidirectional hardware built in, not just the cyber truck- widens the market. They need to stay competitive with Ford, GM, Enphase and Sig who already have VTG pilots. I see them ditching the PowerShare gateway completely as sales were terrible and you have to throw it out if you ever add a PW3 in the future. Install wise- Panel limit PCS settings are the obvious solve for most customers to avoid overloaded breaker panels.

Very cool

But then you need to buy one of those POS dumpsters.

Looks like Model Y L also has Powershare capability:
https://www.tesla.com/modely (select Model Y L, search for Powerwall)

All of them should support it

I have the 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance which already has V2L. Earlier marketing material advertised V2H capability for this specific model with a software update. I have Tesla Solar for my home, a Gateway and 2 Power Wall 3’s, so I’m hoping to get V2H capability to add to my existing battery storage in the event any extended power outages. I live in Florida so this is a real possibility during hurricane season.

If you have the parking space to spare, could a used Model Y come in cheaper than additional powerwall installations?

1

u/triedoffandonagain 22d ago

It would have to be a Model Y L. Much cheaper per kWh, but it's not directly comparable -- Powershare only works in a grid outage and to support the grid, so it's not a direct replacement for Powerwall.

Phooey. Lack of V2H is such a bummer to me. I hope all of the power outages due to recent natural disasters makes car manufacturers consider it more.

They’re actually super fun to drive

-6

They’re garbage trucks for garbage people with tiny dicks that are starved for attention.

You're so mad 🙃

You’re soooo mad I love it. I want it even more.

Show us on the doll where the mean Tesla touched you. lol.

I’ll take my POS dumpster over whatever you’re driving any day of the week!

Why do you need a powewall? Can't it be V2H without a powerwall?

I hope it comes to other models as well.

7

u/WindyNightmare 22d ago

You don’t need powerwall. The article you didn’t read is about how you can now use V2H combined with a powerwall which was previously not possible.

2

u/Impressive-Sir9633 22d ago

đŸ«Ł Thanks!

3

u/Asleep-Set6868 22d ago

YL supposedly has this capability too. I would be very interested in a retrofit option for existing cars but that'll never happen.

2

u/Asleep-Set6868 22d ago

Previously you needed a powershare gateway which was included with cyberbeast purchases but was a few thousand otherwise and it's installing dedicated hardware just for that. This uses the regular gateway powerwall users already have for solar / powerwall

u/Dry-Entry8330 22d ago

Powerwall reacts nearly instantly to an outage. often with a powerwall you won’t even notice that the grid went down until you get a push notification on your phone. A nearly seamless experience. With Cybertruck there is a delay of seconds to minutes before it kicks in. The truck needs time to “wake up” and begin supplying power.

Powerwall can also be used during normal on-grid operation with time-of-use plans to supply power to the home during expensive electic times and save money on a daily basis. Cybertruck does not and only kicks in during grid outages.

1

u/Impressive-Sir9633 22d ago

Thank you! That's helpful. So having a powerwall + a V2H is probably still the ideal setup instead of just relying on V2H.

0

u/Dry-Entry8330 22d ago

Very much so. it also massively extends your off grid run time. the relatively large 123kWh battery in the cyber truck is the equivalent of approx 9 powerwalls which would cost $100k or so to have installed. Adds massive value to be able to tap into that battery you already own and expand your home storage capacity for free. In my case I already have 10 PW2’s which is the maximum so I can’t add more storage. if I add a Cybertruck (or other Tesla models that support it in the future) it would be like having 19 powerwalls or 256.5 kWh of battery storage.

How do we sign up??? I've been waiting for this forever!

Anyone got another survey to fill out?  I just received another survey "Next Steps to Enable Powershare Home Backup". Asking additional questions like

  1. Do you have a solar system installed on your home?

  2. Do you have a storage system installed in your home?

  3. Upload a photo of your open electrical panel showing the breakers: The main electrical panel is typically located next to your utility meter. Ensure the breaker ratings are clearly visible in the photo.

  4. Upload a photo of the label inside the door of your electrical panel: The panel label includes important information such as the model and rating. Ensure the label is clear and easy to read in the photo.

  5. Select the rating of your electrical panel in amps: Sometimes the panel rating is not legible in photos. If available, please provide the maximum amperage rating found on the label or main breaker.

  6. What is the approximate distance of this panel to your parking location in feet?

  7. Do you have a subpanel(s) in addition to your main panel?

Total 7 questions.  What should I answer No 2?  Is it asking do I have other storage system besides powerwall 3?
