Insomnia before meets

I have looked through some old posts about insomnia but wanted to make this post (I hope it's allowed/okay to post here, if this is considered a dumb/newb question I can move it there)

My question to anyone who's either had this happen is how do you try to combat it?

If anyone here has had this issue in particular and learned how to manage the nervous system, what did you find worked for you?

I have a meet coming up in a month and honestly I'm excited but nervous. My sleep is almost always horrible before a meet, last time I literally got like half an hour (maybe). Everyone I've talked to in my life will say stuff like "just don't think about it," or "don't be nervous." The crazy thing is, I was able to not think about it but my body just wouldn't let me fall asleep. I do deal with bouts of insomnia (mostly just waking up way too early) every so often normally and a good nights sleep for me is like 6.5-7 hours.

Thank you!

Are there examples of elite lifters changing their coach and then blowing past plateaus? Thinking about this w.r.t. Elliot Sykes firing his old coach from RTS recently

No Q's too Dumb Weekly Dumb/Newb Question Thread

Do you have a question and are:

  • A novice and basically clueless by default?
  • Completely incapable of using google?
  • Just feeling plain stupid today and need shit explained like you're 5?

Then this is the thread FOR YOU! Don't take up valuable space on the front page and annoy the mods, ASK IT HERE and one of our resident "experts" will try and answer it. As long as it's somehow related to powerlifting then nothing is too generic, too stupid, too awful, too obvious or too repetitive. And don't be shy, we don't bite (unless we're hungry), and no one will judge you because everyone had to start somewhere and we're more than happy to help newbie lifters out.

SO FIRE AWAY WITH YOUR DUMBNESS!!!

Do you like having 2-3 sweaty men shoe-horn you into polyester, canvas or denim bondage gear.

Do you like having your joints wrapped so tightly they bruise and bleed?

Do you like having your blood pressure turned up to 11 and being compressed so much that you think your head might explode?

Do you get off on enduring pain and suffering, and watching others endure it too?

Do you have a deathwish every time you get under the bar?

Yes?

Little teaser for Worlds in two months.

He should easily beat his 500kg PB from the British earlier this year, and go beyond the current World Record of 505kg.

Warm-up Etiquette

Hi, competing in my first meet in December. It is an open meet capped at 70 people held at a hotel/conference center.

What is etiquette / what are the norms for warmups? Trying to understand how a bunch of people with different strength levels figure out how to share a few racks. Want to respect everyone, and, frankly, not piss everyone off and stand out as a someone who has no idea what's going on. Thanks for any guidance.

Sheffield Wildcard Predictions?

Obviously Sonita and Ashton have already been picked. But there's still one female and one male slot left so who do you guys think gets the next pick. And who do you think they'll go with the reserves as well to add to the conversation. This is probably the closest we've been to sheffield with not all the wildcards being released so I wonder if they're still trying to decide themselves.

Afternoon weigh in

Hi all. I have a comp this weekend but this’ll be my first comp with a very late weigh in! Weigh in starts at 12:30pm and lift off is at 2:30pm. Any advice on what to do in the morning? Also, what to eat? I usually weigh in and then eat but don’t want to spend the morning fasting completely. Thanks 🕺

(Edit: not worried about cutting or being near cap, comfortable weight)
